One of the nicest places we have stayed in Italy. Very close to the Swiss border and the town of Lugano. Facilities were excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. The grounds were manicured. The spa and the indoor pool were excellent. Outdoor pools were "open" but not heated so too cold to try them. The breakfast was more than the common fare found at the usual European hotels. In fact, the breakfast and the dining rooms were one of the highlights. Room was really a villa with large living area, separate bedroom, dining area and kitchen complete with all the pots, pans, plates and utensils needed to cook a large Italian meal (including strainers, serving bowls, cork screws and different size wine glasses. The town of Porlezza has four grocery stores in or around the area so we cooked most of our meals. We did not try the Resort's restaurant. And there were also many smaller and unique restaurants to explore along the coast highway. Fitness area overlooks Lake Lugano, as did the balcony of our room. This Resort is highly recommended, even for a small family as there are many separate supervised activities for children. One heads up: It is not really close to Malpensa. It took 3 hours plus to get there along SS340, which can be a one lane road, behind buses at times. The road follows Lake Como, then makes a sharp left thru some tunnels towards Lake Lugano, where the Resort is located. We left for Malpensa on a Sunday very early in the morning and made it there within 2 hours
Villa Aurora is situated on the main road in the small town of Lezzeno near Belegio.
Our room was across the road from the water. We had a view of the lake and comfortable quarters, the bathroom small but very adequate. There is no elevator so we carried our bags up to the third floor, I'm sure the staff would have helped if asked, but I needed the exercise!
Speaking of the staff, they were all very warm and accommodating. The folks at the reception were very helpful with suggestions and directions, bus tickets etc..
The restaurant across the street is excellent, great views of the lake and there is access from ther to a great deck directly on the water. We found the service and the food at the restaurant to be fabulous. This is a great place to"chill" and be away from the crowds!
They do have water sport activities available that looked fun that we did not take advantage of, perhaps next trip!

Hotel is walking distance to all Como. Clean and helpful staff. Good room size. Breakfast was included and was very good. Wi-Fi internet was very slow, good only to get mail. Towels were just enough, could have used an extra one. Overall, at good price, I would recommend it.

"Relaxing location from which to explore Lake Como"
The owners and staff at Hotel Royal are most hospitable and helpful. This applies not only to Mario, but also to all the staff - reception, dining room, people who cleaned our room. The hotel itself is very comfortable and we enjoyed the terrace from our ground floor room with views over the garden and in the distance over the lake. A great place to enjoy relaxing and the occasional spritzer! As the hotel is small, it has an intimacy about it. Breakfasts were good and we chose to eat in the three nights we were there as the meals were very good and very reasonably priced. As the hotel is located up the hill from the town, it is either a 20+ minutes steep walk back (or drive), although Mario was obliging too in taking us to the wharf to catch the ferry. It does mean that dining is the easiest option! Lucky that it is also a good option.
