La Valencia Hotel

"Not all rooms at this hotel were updated and the one I got didn’t look like the photos on Expedia at all! I booked a king size room with ocean view. When I checked in, the woman at front desk told me she “upgraded” me to a suite. Little did I know, the room was on the ground floor, tucked away in the corner of the property, I had to walk past the kitchen and some offices to get there. And it’s next to a rooftop bar, which was loud at night. She didn’t mention any of this at check in and acted like she did me a big favor. I saw her again at check out. She didn’t ask me how the stay was or any of that. I brought up the room wasn’t as expected and she was not apologetic at all and kept saying it’s twice the size and all rooms were updated in 2018. At last, she waived the resort fee “for the misunderstanding”. The whole conversation made me very uncomfortable and I definitely will not stay this hotel again."

"The grounds are beautiful. Well maintained. There were multiple events outside on the lawn. Breakfast at Greenfinch (?) was good and filling. The wait staff were attentive. The day we were at the pool, the cafe was closed. If you go to the pool, go early. If you wait, there may not be any chairs. We had to rent a cabana. Definitely not worth the money. In the first cabana, the TV didn’t work. In the second cabana, the fan didn’t work. We were told maintenance would come to fix it. That didn’t happen. Additionally, the pool waitstaff did their best to keep. But, we only saw the waitstaff once during our 5 hour pool time. The rooms were large, as were our the bathrooms. Good water pressure in the shower. The beds were comfortable. The valet staff were amazing. Prompt, efficient and professional. Out of all the service we had here, definitely the best. I saw many people (leadership staff walking around in suits). They never spoke, nor asked how the stay was. Additionally, after all of the issues with the Caban, no one apologized nor asked if we would like a discount. Very disappointing. Compared to other resorts (we travel frequently), I would not return. The reason I gave it a 4 is for the valet staff and grounds. Otherwise, I would have given it a 3. Also, if you aren’t from California, the weather in the morning and evening was cool."
La Jolla Shores Hotel

"We ended up in a very noisy area of the hotel. Next to the elevator, 3rd floor and perhaps near a cleaning closet. Also, the seagulls perch right above the roomand woke us all up through the night and morning. You can hear them squawking and depositing stuff on the roof. So we didn’t get the peace we really wanted during our stay. Make sure you don’t get room 300 when visiting, our friends were in different areas and had no problem."

"The hotel is so lovely and so are the people working there. So very kind, helpful and friendly! I’ve been to La Jolla a lot over the years, but this is by far my favorite place I’ve stayed. I definitely will be coming back and you cannot beat the location!! 5 stars all around!"

"If you are a light sleeper and get room 1009, ask for a different room. The restaurant is directly above it, and chairs are being moved making noise until after midnight. Then around 3:30-4:30 am the food deliveries are made. Very loud rolling cart noises and boxes being dropped on the floor above. When I brought it up to the front desk, they gave me ear plugs. Great view, convenient location, but we didn't get much sleep!"

"We really enjoyed our stay at Sands of La Jolla! We stayed on the second floor with a king-sized bed, and the room was clean, with a balcony to lay out towels and swim suits."

"Property was nice and clean, but it is a bit dated. Location is nice and central to many things, and walking distance to many eateries. Our biggest complaint was the parking fee; we traveled with two cars and had to pay $42. A night for each car to park. $84. A night just to park, on top of everything else they charge was too much!"
