Amazing venue but food and service can be improved
I was amazed and delighted by the hotel and room. The hotel’s location is amazing, with views of the nearby forest and stream. Deer visit frequently and can be seen from the room window. A superbly peaceful and serene place to stay. A car is needed as it’s a 5 min drive to the nearby town and tourist attractions. The hotel room is also generously sized, with a sitting area, a huge almost full length window, and a sleeping area which can be separated from the sitting area with blinds that the hotel thoughtfully installed. The bathroom comes with a wooden tub that can be filled with hot water for a personal onsen experience. A touch of old world charm was added in the form of coffee beans and hand operated coffee grinder, rather than the soulless instant coffee in most hotels. The hotel’s onsen facilities are also amazing, sitting in the outdoor pool felt like sitting in the middle of a secluded forest. There are also 3 private onsen rooms for a more private onsen experience . Where the hotel could improve is to improve the food offering and also the service level. We had both breakfast and dinner and both were of rather average quality. I would also note that the service levels can be improved - the hotel declined to provide a shuttle bus ride into the town, just because we had our own car. They also misrepresented the price of the dinner to us - telling us the cost was jpy4400. We were charged jpy8800 per person upon check out!

We appreciate your understanding that we ask all visitors to use their own vehicles when out and about.Also, the price for dinner is 8,800 yen per adult. When I checked with the person in charge at the front desk, I was told that the staff member who answered the question on the day had mistakenly answered the dinner price for children. We apologize for causing you confusion.

To start with the positve. The rooms are wonderful, they give you the charm of Japan with the comfort of a 5 star western hotel. The food is excellent, but be warned you must pre-arrange your meals, there is no regular restaurant. Also they only serve breakfast and dinner. If you are not driving, we took the rail and local bus, it is inconvenient to get to, and a bit far from the actual Lake Akan town. The hotel will shuttle you to and from the town. over all we had an extremely relaxing time there and recomend it for high quality down time.

Lovely and beautiful surrounds. We had the forest view and could see deers roaming freely. Dinner was excellent. The public onsen was along the river, very close to nature. Highly recommended and hope to be back someday

recuperation after ski trip
We are family of 4 with two kids (6 and 8). Amazing place for recuperation. Super clean, super comfort, superb breakfast, dinner and snack. Both public and private Onsen (good for 2 adults). We chose the suite room over room with river view. Should have picked the room with river view.

A bit of luxury
A great stay albeit by far the most expensive hotel in a 3 week trip to Japan although evening meal was included. We had a river view room and saw deer outside our window every night. A very large room that was very clean with its own onsen. The Japanese breakfast and dinner (basically no western food) were of a very high standard with exceptional service.. My wife loved trying all the different foods( including sea urchin) but after 4 days the food was probably enough for us. A good remote bush location on a flowing river which we used as a base to visit all the main sights with 50km or so including the Red Crowned Cranes (three sightings in the wild).

Beautiful rooms with a view
We were driving this area of hokkaido and found this place on hotels.com The English was limited but we got by. The rooms were large with a spectacular view of the river. We saw a raccoon dog and and a red fox outside our room amongst many deer. We decided to get the set meal as we knew there were not many options around. I’m glad we did but I didn’t eat much of it. It is a set meal so lots of wastage if there is anything you don’t want/like. The menu is in Japanese and the staff didn’t speak English... this is where google translate comes in handy!!. There is an onsen (separate Male / female) and also private onsens. My husband and I used the private onsen twice which was really beautiful with the large windows opening up to the snow. There are 3 onsen choices... brick, wood and ceramic. We found the brick to be the best as it was the biggest. If the light is on outside the onsen then that means somebody is in. Overall we had a lovely stay

Lovely stay at a modern ryokan near the river
An awesome stay near Lake Akan. While a distance away from the town, La Vista had peace and quiet at its location. You could spot wild animals such as tanuki dogs and even a red fox. The sounds from the river also lulls you to sleep and the public and private onsens were lovely. The food on the second day was really good and in general a very relaxing and therapeutic place.

Extremely nice room with picturesque river view
When we checked in it was snowing heavily in Hokkaido eastern lake of Akanko in late November. The large unobstructed view of our room facing a small river was so striking with snowing outside, made us wish to stay here for much longer if not for our busy schedule. We were also extremely impressed by the in-room private onsen, special room design that felt like a small service apartment rather than a hotel room, high quality furnishing, quality of the Japanese dinner/breakfast, staff hospitality, public onsen bath, etc. Will certainly re-visit this hotel if we ever come back to the Akanko region. Well done La Vista!

Great view and lovely room and excellent service.
We booked the Nitai Deluxe Double which is a Queen size (2 king single?) very spacious. Room is big and have its own onsen (wooden bath tub and can pump and fill the spa water) with a Forrest view. The hotel also have public onsen and private family onsen. The private family onsen no extra cost, just first come first serve (there are 3 private family onsen, you can see which one was in use if its light is on) You can lock the private onsen which is very good and with nice view, and enjoy with your partner or even whole family. The hotel only offer breakfast and dinner, there is no lunch or room service. The nearest dinning or shops would be 3~4kms away. So I would highly recommend to pick this hotel if you drive by yourself as it will be difficult to go around if you don't have a car and nothing else nearby. Overall, I love this hotel, great service and nice room. Breakfast and Dinner is superb! (They serve quite traditional Japanese style food so it may not be your taste but it is very dedicated and good experience! ) Highly recommended.

Excellent hotel, the best we stayed in for the 2 week trip. Hotel is next to a river, with deers roaming nearby. We picked a room with river and mountain views, not disappointed, with good autumn foliage. We went to bed with windows open, listening to water flowing. Service is excellent. This is the only onsen asked if any food we don't eat, explain every dish in English, and give us a choice of western or Japanese breakfast.

The location was a bit away from the city of Lake Akan. But it was queit and relaxing. Really a good place to relax. The meals served were good and delicious. The room we stayed was large and comfortable.

Favorite La Vista!
Absolutely fabulous stay! We upgraded our room and it had an onsen bath in the room overlooking the river- the food was all very beautifully, thoughtfully, and tastefully prepared. The staff are very nice, everything is just so cozy and comfy! The Akan Lake is close by too!

The hotel is cozy. The room is very clean and comfortable. The hot spring private bathtub in the guest room is wonderful, no need to leave your room to enjoy a hot spring bath. The Japanese breakfasts and dinners are superb. Healthy and fresh local produce. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The hotel is located right next to a river and on the edge of a woodland. It's not uncommon to see deers and foxes in the area(even within the hotel area). If only they have more info or maps on hiking/leisure walking in the mountains and around the lakes nearby, it would make it a perfect place to stay.

Tolle Lage am Fluss, wenige Minuten Fahrzeit zum Akan-See, vom Zimmer aus oder beim Essen können Rehe beobachtet werden Schöne, geräumige Zimmer mit eigener Onsen-Badewanne Drei private Onsen, die genutzt werden können. Japanisches Abendessen, zum Frühstück kann gewählt werden zwischen Japanisch/Westlich, beides wird serviert und ist mehr als reichlich. Mitternachts-Ramen Personal spricht etwas Englisch, ist sehr bemüht.

金額と前評判の割に少し微妙な印象でした。お風呂はとてもよかったです。食事は普通です。 部屋も悪くはないですが部屋にあるお風呂は狭く、リバービューにしましたが窓が少ししか開かないため、聞きたかった川の音があまり聞こえなくて残念、、、また、虫が多く、窓が開けられたとしても微妙だったかな？と言う印象。部屋にあるクッション等は色褪せて汚かったし、あまり綺麗な印象はなかったですね。もう一泊ほぼ同じ金額で違うホテルを利用したのですが、そちらが良すぎて、余計に残念に感じてしまいました。食事前の軽食も微妙で（柏餅と肉まんと枝豆で、あまり数もなく冷凍な感じ）いただきませんでした。 なぜこんなに口コミがいいのか少し不思議になりました。すいません、、スタッフの方も悪くないですが普通です。
