I liked the location, which was relatively close to the National Park. The lodge itself had everything you needed. There is no A/C in the rooms, but did have a fan. I didn't need it because I went in early May and it was still nice and cold. The restaurant could have been a lot better. Barely felt like a restaurant. You ordered using a Touch screen and someone would bring out your food. You had to grab your own plastic utensils and really no wait service. Food was ok, nothing special. Just expected more of a personal touch. Overall, I still enjoyed my stay and a a lot of great hikes.

Location is conveniently close to attractions. Very limited food options, bed was uncomfortable. There were cobwebs in the inside upper corners of windows and behind bedside tables. Cushions on chairs had torn up seats.

Only shortcoming is lack of dining facilities. The park restaurant had decent food but is basic and a walk from the hotel.

We arrrived and checked to see when our room would be ready (we were early) we were able to get a short hike in, still many roads closed because of winter travel. Shopping, visitor center walkable from the lodge, dining room food was decent you order at the desk and it comes out kinda of carry out style to your table. Lodge is rustic and what I would expect at a national park. Most visitors hung in the lobby around the fireplace and played games in the evening because to get other places is probably a 45 minute drive. The road is windy and at times foggy so getting places quickly is not an option.

Property is good but you can hear noise or kids running around. The lodge shoud not accept reservations if in those months most of the activities or roads are closed.

Unfortunately we did not make it to the hotel due to a bad snow storm, we tried calling the hotel to cancel and no answer. Expedia also tried calling and no answer, then they refused to refund our money back. Definitely not an unsatisfactory idea. I would have at least appreciated a credit for future use. HORRIBLE SERVICE!

The property was nice except for the mattresses. You could feel every spring in the mattress. They did say that they were getting new mattresses in the Spring.

Every time my Family visit Sequoia NP we stay at Wukashi and we always love it. Decided to try John Muir because they have better food choices. I am so dissatisfied with almost everything. It is beautiful area but that’s all. First I booked room for 5 adult people at Expedia. Upon which at arrival I was told exactly that: “we only have rooms with two queen beds, you can select option for 5 people which only means we will charge you extra for 5th person but it is up to you how you will fit the 5th person into the bed.” Wow… seriously?! I have never seen anything like that. In Wukashi 5 person room means two beds plus extra sofa or sleeper couch. In other hotels it means there is 3rd bed. I am shocked. We had to sleep 3 in one bed, my Mom, my Husband and I in a Queen bed… lol not fun, all of us didn’t sleep. Good it was only one night. Also even though room was for 5 people we got - 3 towels, 2 cups. Huh? We should share the cups and towels too? And room was extremely old and nasty, dirty walls, mold in bathroom, unpleasant carpet, ripped chairs and mattress underneath the sheets. Shocked how bad this place was, truly!

Nice small property. Thought it would be a more full resort. No dining, just a nice small hotel experience. No breakfast or anything special.

A reasonably priced basic lodge to sleep comfortably and quietly in the middle of a beautiful national park. Easy walk to Grants Grove Village with a market, gift shop and restaurant. Restaurant is not full service during non-peak months, but you can get coffee and inexpensive snacks in the lodge 24 hours. Nice outdoor areas with rocking chairs.

Can't beat the location for Kings Canyon and northern sites of Sequoia. I would have expected more services for the price, like tea, decaf coffee and fruit in the lobby, food options nearby, and recycling bins that aren't too full to use. Beds were comfortable.

We booked a room for two nights at the John Muir Lodge. We had a king bed with a rollaway cot for our teen. The lobby was on the smaller side, but they have seating, a fireplace, board games and a small selection of snacks you can buy. You can scan a QR code & order ahead from the restaurant nearby. Comfortable place to stay and I would recommend it if you are staying overnight in the park.

Best location in Kings Canyon with 1 mile drive to Grant Tree and 2.5 drive to Panoramic Point. Nearby market and restaurant shop makes it the best .

Nice but hot
Kings Canyon is wonderful to see. The little restaurant nearby was very cool. John Muir Lodge is old but adequate in all areas except one. Air Conditioning. The lack of this made it fairly miserable. I know that it is probably only necessary for 3-4 months of the year, but when we checked in, our room was at least 85 degrees (It was in the 90s outside. We were allowed to open a window and given a fan but this did nothing. I took two ice cold showers, one before bed and one in the middle of the night to try to sleep. Even this did not work. Nobody in my family was able to sleep or get any comfort that night. I have a fear that the lack of AC is being done as a way to virtue signal how green or ecofriendly they are. On the other hand, everything else was absolutely great/fine. It would have been comfortable in the fall, just not summer.

You are actually staying in King's Canyon National Park. Know that. It will cost you $35 to get to your hotel. That being said, you're staying in King's Canyon National Park!!! Gorgeous sequoias! Breath-taking landscapes. There was no AC in the room. Just an oscillating tower fan, so it was a bit sweaty. Other than that, it was a great experience. Spacious room. Clean. Surrounded by a place that John Muir thought rivaled Yosemite.

Can't beat the location with it being in the park, and the food was good and convenient, but check in was a bit of a hassle as I was charged both by a 3rd party booking firm and the hotel itself. The TVs are non operational due to the recent storm and the building itself needs some upgrades

Much of the area was closed over MDW. Not anyone’s fault, just limited our options. The cable was out! Made it extremely boring in the evenings. Got accused of smoking in my room. We do not smoke! One dining option with limited options and hours of operation. The place was clean, and the staff friendly, but that did not make up for the lack of entertainment or the very limited dining options.
