We booked a non smoking room and had to stay in a smoking room as they had nothing else available. The front desk clerk was kind and offered some air freshener but was not helpful in getting rid of the thick smoky odor. Needless to say did not sleep well.

Not Disability friendly, policy to sign for service animals and placed in a "pet designated" room which usually smells like pee and poop. ADA Federal law FORBIDS as a service animal is not a pet, and in no way should a disabled person be required to stay in any different accommodations than a regular individual. So i was charged for staying in a non-pet friendly room. Its been turned over to the Illinois persons with disabilities act. Further more, i came and went with my dog on my shoulder pouch for two days, no one had the courtesy to call and ask if i had a dog, one of the managers tried to force her way into my room clearly marked "Do Not Disturb" with an extra latch on, thank goodness as i was half dressed. She stated she needed to check the room, i was mortified and asked if she saw the sigh... very low class, uninformed and tacky individuals. I've stayed at the Ritz and never had one question, no declaration, no signatures, and never ever relegated to a Pet Friendly room as my animal is AKC Regestered Service and therapy.. not a fly by night fake by any means. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Plus there was no chair in the room, the desk was tacky, the drain on the sink was malfunctioning and the bathtub plug did not work.

We found the staff quite friendly and helpful! The rooms were very clean and breakfast was a social event of l The travelers!! We will return and stay when we visit the Grafton area again

We got the large room with 3 queen sized beds. The room was okay. Not the best quality, not the most clean. The biggest problem was the air conditioning in our room wasn't working. So it was VERY hot. They offered to move us to another room, but it would only be two queen beds. We needed the 3 and has paid for 3.

Upon check in the over night was rude to my husband because “I couldn’t run my night audit because of you”. My husband called earlier in the evening to let the hotel know that we would be late and she sounded very irritated with him and said, “Well no one told me that.” The next night I had my interaction with her. I asked if we could get a couple more towels because there were only 3 in the room. We had 4 guest staying. She gave me attitude and Asked if I had the dirty towels with me. We had just walked in from being gone all day, so no I didn’t have the dirty towels with me. She grudgingly gave me two more towels, which was needed since no one cleaned the room that day. The next morning after I showered, I reused the towels and then took them down and got a couple more fresh ones. At some point that second day, house keeping came in and replaced the floor mat. That’s it. Beds were not made the second day either. There was absolutely nothing on the beds to prevent them from being made. I have always stayed at this hotel when I have been in Jerseyville and after this experience, I’m considering finding a different hotel. The over night person, just really made it an uncomfortable experience.

Details matter
Overall our experience was good. Room was spacious and clean. Service was good. It is only the small details that keep me from rating this higher. Slight odor in the room. Patch work around the window that was incomplete. Badly mismatched paint on other repairs made the room feel in worse condition than it was. None of these would keep me from staying again, the small details just lower the overall feeling and experience.

At a time when there was NASCAR and hotels were going for $279 a night. We stayed at this little gem. It could definitely use a facelift but had a comfortable mattress & pillows, good water pressure & continental breakfast and nice staff for $100!
