"No complaints by me. It’s a very central hotel. The rooms are a bit dated, but they’re clean and comfortable and that’s perfect for me. The front desk staff are very kind and helpful. The breakfast gets very busy so get there early to get the best pic of all the food. I didn’t really have any problems other than the fact that you have to buy the water in the mini bar. There’s no other way to get drinkable water. Water is needed to stay alive so I think at the very least a hotel should give you drinkable water without buying it extra but I didn’t complain too much about that. There’s a grocery store up the street too, and I went and bought some large bottles of water there."

"Superb location just a block away from the fames Ipanema beach. Lots of eateries within a few blocks. Metro is right next door which makes getting to Centro real easy even in heavy traffic. Staff was super helpful and cheerful. The room size is what I expect in Ipanema. Wish the bathroom is bit bigger and they should add a hand shower. I missed that after coming back from beach."

"The room was fine. The hotel advertises services, but nothing works. The workout room was minimal and it was locked. The pool was closed for service. The sauna did not work for over a week. They use facial recognition (instead of keys) to enter the hotel and other spaces. That didn't work the first day either. Save your money. Stay in a cheaper place with just a bed and a bath-- that's all you'll get here."

"I rarely leave negative reviews because I’m usually very satisfied with my Expedia bookings, but unfortunately this experience at Ipanema Beach Hostel was extremely disappointing. The photos shown online did not match the actual property conditions. The place felt disorganized, poorly maintained, and far below expectations. The room quality was bad, and the stairs were incredibly narrow and uncomfortable, to the point where my friends could barely walk through them properly with luggage. The biggest issue was the noise. There was a party at night inside the property, and it was so loud that guests could not sleep properly. For travelers looking to rest, this was very frustrating. On top of that, the staff attitude felt arrogant and unhelpful during our stay, which made the whole situation even worse. I paid using my Expedia KeyCash and trusted the quality based on previous great experiences with Expedia, so this was honestly disappointing. I hope the property improves its transparency and guest experience in the future."
Hotel Astoria Ipanema (antigo Mar Ipanema)

"The staff at the hotel were fantastic and assisted us with all our needs. Even though we are English speakers we felt right at home here. The rooms are modern, with excellent views of the city (we could even see Christ the redeemer from our hotel window!). The breakfast buffet was plentiful each morning and provided us a very accessible way to get breakfast with such a busy schedule. We completed our excursions and came home to a clean and tidy room each day. The room also had air conditioning that we could adjust according to our needs. The rooftop offers incredible views of Rio and a wide selection of tasty drinks. This hotel is walking distance from so many amazing restaurants and shopping (Musa Cafe and the flagship Havaianas location). Overall I would absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone coming to the Ipanema area and I hope to be back!"

"The Good: The rooftop pool is absolutely worth it — stunning views over Ipanema make it one of Rio’s best hotel experiences. The staff were also consistently friendly, attentive, and a genuine pleasure to deal with throughout the stay. The Not-So-Good: The rooms are quite small for the price — not what you’d expect from a luxury property. The breakfast buffet was also underwhelming, with a limited selection that doesn’t match the hotel’s reputation. Would I recommend it? Yes, with caveats. If you’re coming for the atmosphere, the pool, and the location, Fasano delivers. Just don’t expect a spacious room or an impressive breakfast spread. Tips for future guests: Request a higher room category for more space, and consider grabbing breakfast at a local café in Ipanema."
