Hi Sarah We’re glad you thought the cottage was lovely — we work hard to ensure it is a welcoming, well-equipped and affordable space for guests to enjoy while they’re in Hawke’s Bay. We trust you enjoyed the welcome gift and we appreciate the effort you went to in leaving the cottage tidy upon departure. However, I would like to clarify the facts around a couple of issues you have listed: All check-in information and access codes, including the electronic gate code, were emailed to you two days prior to your arrival. In that email, we also provided our mobile phone number so that you can contact us at any point during your stay. As you’ve correctly mentioned, the cottage does not have laundry facilities and this is reflected in the property amenities in the online listing. We also don’t provide swimming towels, which I would think is standard practice for accommodation unless there is an on-site pool. If you had contacted us on the phone number provided, we could have arranged some beach towels for you. The white bath towels you took from the cottage to use at the river were left with a significant amount of dirt on them, which is not surprising given you explained you used them to sit on at the river. This took considerable effort to clean to a point where they are in acceptable condition for future guests. We didn’t "threaten to report you to Book a Bach” — we mentioned that if an additional cleaning fee was necessary to sort the towels, then it would be done through VRBO (as all payments are managed through the booking site). Again, thank you for leaving the cottage clean and tidy. It’s unfortunate that the desecration of the towels — a preventable problem — resulted in a situation that has caused you distress.
