This is a wonderful house in a wonderful location !! If you are looking for a truly Greek experience we cannot recommend this place enough.
House Potami is just lovely! Very sizeable with everything you could need. They really have thought of everything. There is plenty of space to put your stuff, in the bedroom, lounge and kitchen. It is spotless. All you would need in the kitchen. Very comfortable bed, crisp sheets. Air con upstairs and downstairs, also a quiet fan above bed.
Outdoor areas also great, front garden under shade of a Mediterranean tree, very occasional passers by. Upstairs terrace of good proportions with sunbeds and dining table and chairs.
From the onset, the service from the owner was excellent. Quick responses to queries before we went and ongoing Mark was happy to help us with all we needed.
Vori, only an hour and a half drive south from Heraklion, is a quaint village with a small square. Best ice cream ever at the café/taverna, lovely café frappe. There is one tavern, Alekos, run by husband and wife, very nice indeed - gorgeous garden surroundings and delicious food. Three cafes on the square. Small supermarket open all day, possibly not Sundays. We loved that there were empty ruined buildings next to bright inhabited ones. Truly a Greek village experience.
Took day trips to Phaistos (ancient Minoan palace), Gortyn (ancient Roman capital), Minoan tomb, Matala where hippies inhabited caves (ancient Roman tombs) in 1960s. There is a beach at Matala and also a quieter beach nearby at Kalamaki with free sunbeds at the tavernas - all this within 5-30 minutes drive from House Potami.
We have stayed in many properties booked via websites such as Ownersdirect, this is one of the best!
