Learn about the nation’s favourite players and moments of triumph and tragedy in Brazil’s exciting history of soccer at this museum located below Pacaembu Stadium.

São Paulo’s Estádio do Pacaembu (Pacaembu Stadium) is the historic site of many momentous moments in Brazil’s soccer legacy and is the home of the dedicated Football Museum. Visit the Estádio do Pacaembu to see the field where Brazil played one of its only World Cup games at home.

The Brazilian president inaugurated the stadium in 1940 and it has since become an exciting destination for soccer fanatics and anyone with an interest in Brazilian history. The Football Museum explores a comprehensive timeline of soccer in Brazil, covering a range of historic moments, national personalities and World Cup events.

Enter the Football Museum through its main entrance and discover a room displaying a collection of posters from many different eras in Brazilian soccer history. This is a particularly nostalgic exhibit for many Brazilians, as some of the nation’s greatest soccer stars are commemorated in these images. Look over the different names and flags to learn about Brazil’s many teams and famous players. Learn about the cultural prominence of soccer in Brazil and how the country adapted to and excelled at the “beautiful game” brought to South America by the British in the late 19th century.

Explore the interactive gallery rooms to reach the museum’s World Cup exhibition. Watch the dramatic highs and lows of Brazil’s efforts in the World Cup Championships throughout the decades, including the memorable victories of 1994 and 2002. The image gallery recalls the exciting events through action photography and the images that splashed across the newspapers at the time.

São Paulo’s Football Museum is located inside Pacaembu Stadium in the Pacaembu district. Reach the museum by bus, metro or taxi from the city centre. The stadium has on-site parking for a fee.

Enter the Football Museum for a fee. The museum is closed on Mondays and when matches are being played at the stadium.
