Folkets Park is a 2.4-hectare (6-acre) recreational area with rolling, green lawns and an open-air concert stage for live music. This family-friendly park has a wading pool, fairground rides and animal enclosures.
The park had become almost derelict by the 1990s, 100 years since it opened. Extensive renovations over the following years completely rejuvenated it, and today Folkets Park is one of the city’s favourite parks.
Visit Folkets Park to see live music and theatre performances on the Stora Scenen, a main stage which once played host to performances by Frank Sinatra and ABBA. Nojesteatren, a theatre beside the main stage, also has an exciting program of music and live shows. The Folkets Park official website has further details on events.
Kids will be entertained for hours at the park’s Terrarium. See snakes, crocodiles, moneys and parrots. Visit the rabbits, guinea pigs and sheep, and take a ride on a pony at the mini-farm. A large wading pool, located at the park’s southern end, is a refreshing spot to visit on summer days and is free to use. This pool transforms into a ice-skating rink from November to February. Visit the amusement park to play mini-golf or ride bumper cars and a little roller coaster.
Pack some picnic snacks and spend an afternoon on the lawn in front of the main stage. Use the free barbecues opposite the wading pool to grill some lunch. Fast food such as hotdogs, hamburgers and fries can be found at the park’s on-site eateries.
The park is located in the south side of central Malmo and can be reached by foot from Stortorget in 25 minutes. On-site parking is not available but public buses stop regularly along the nearby Airalsgatan and Bergsgatan roads.
Folkets Park is open every day from early morning until late afternoon. Specific opening hours and prices for each attraction can be found on the park’s official website.
