Though it is a bustling city, Manchester still somehow manages to maintain its quaint, colourful charm. Rapidly becoming a favourite tourist destination, this city has plenty to offer its visitors.
From the marvellous performances at the Lowery Centre to the fantastic shopping at the Trafford Centre; the delicious dining on Curry Mile, to the heart-pounding sporting events at Old Trafford, this destination has something to please everyone.
Although Manchester is quickly making a name for itself, tourism is still not at its peak, and because of this, flights to the area are relatively inexpensive most of the time.
From June to July, then again in December, Manchester sees its peak season. Though December is one of the wetter months of the year, the summertime is drier than usual. Despite the rain, visitors still come in droves to take part in the Christmas Tree Festival and shop the Ramsbottom Christmas Markets in December, while in June and July, tourists gather to see the Manchester International Film and Jazz Festivals.
Despite the temperate climate from March through May, and September through November, tourism declines. Finding cheap flights to Manchester is a relatively simple task during these periods, making them excellent times to take in some of the nightlife at the Warehouse Project, relax in the Parsonage Gardens, or see a show at the MEN Arena.
Tourism comes to a near halt from January to February, and August. These months can be humid, so they are excellent for taking part in some of the numerous indoor activities, such as exploring the People's History Museum, taking a ride on the Folk Train, or enjoying a coffee and some music at the Trof cafe.
Manchester Airport (MAN)
Distance: 14km to city centre
Both inexpensive and quick, the local train service is one of the best methods of ground transport, taking about 20 minutes to arrive. Taxis are also available, and are more flexible than the train, but they are more expensive, and take roughly 45 minutes.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL)
Distance: 44km west from Manchester
The most inexpensive methods of ground transport are the train and coach services. Both take about 45 minutes to arrive in the city. It is important to plan ahead if you want to take the train, as departures are limited to only two per hour.
