Edisto Beach House
We enjoyed our stay very much. We spent most of our time on the screened in porch. The house was not cleaned well as empty can under the couch, dust under all the furniture, sand in the bathroom shower, & all rugs were dirty. Certainly had not been mopped recently. The house needs some updates as small bathroom had lock. The screen on the door going onto the side deck was almost gone from flapping in the wind. A kitchen window had a spoon stuck in it to hold it in. We never found the Roku remote to watch tv. Wifi & cell service (Verizon) was very spotty. These things did not keep us from enjoying ourselves. It’s an awesome location. You can walk to Food Lion, ice cream & coffee shops, other shops, restaurants, etc. We would stay again. I tried to contact the host before our trip to tell her the number in our party had changed but couldn't so told vrbo agent. I didn't have any contact with the host. We couldn't find any rules posted in the house other than wifi info which I found unusual. This is the first place I've ever stayed & had to take towels, rags, & bed linens. The house is fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, coffee pot, Keurig, utensils, etc. We would stay again.

This house was great for our group of four adults and two dogs. We spent a lot of time enjoying the front porch, and while the interior could have used a more thorough cleaning, it was a fine place to stay for a week. We did have an issue with a leak in the ceiling that was not resolved during our stay, but the property manager was very helpful and communicative about the issue. Overall, would definitely stay here again!

Hot week
The air conditioning and internet went out on Monday. I notified VRBO on early Tuesday morning. There was no info on how to notify owner. The internet was fixed Wednesday, but the AC wasn't fixed until Friday afternoon. Half of my family left before Friday due to the heat. The owner and I texted numerous times over the week after I received his number from VRBO.

Despite the review, it was our pleasure to refund you for 2 of the 3 nights that the air conditioner was out! We're also happy to point out that we had the only HVAC service on the island at the house within several hours of notification. Unfortunately, due to weather, he was not able to replace the faulty unit immediately (sometimes these things are just out of our control). However, The Gull's Nest now has a brand new HVAC, so something good came out of it.

Perfect for a group with Kids!
We had the most amazing stay at this house! The location was so close to the beach access point! The house was clean and had everything we needed! The porch spaces were amazing! The kids spent most of their downtime out on the front screened-in porch and once they went to bed it was the perfect spot for parents to hang out! We would definitely come back again!

Great location
It was a great location with plenty of room but they need a new house cleaner. The oven, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, and counters weren’t cleaned. Beer bottles were left on the porch. Floors had been swept but not mopped. Bathrooms still had hair in showers. You can’t see through windows. So if you plan on staying here take cleaning supplies.

Perfect location
The location of the property is perfect. Just off the beach, we could see the waves from the front porch, which we enjoyed throughout our stay. public access to the beach was a super short walk. There was plenty of room for our group of four. The house is old and outdated and could use some deep cleaning, but I really, it was worth the money due to its ideal location. Would consider staying here again.

Wonderful old style beach house.
This is the second time that I’ve stayed at this house. It is not a new, modern home, but an old style beach house. I enjoy it very very much. It reminds me of my youth there at the beach. I find the house to be incredibly adequate for everything that I need. The house is clean, could be a little cleaner. But it has all the amenities that I could use. I will definitely return to this home again.

Great location, convenient, and quiet beach stay
Overall we were very happy with our month-long stay. The deficiencies that the prior guest mentioned in her review on Feb 2, 2023 are accurate (dripping faucets, dirty windows/blinds, HVAC intake, fans) but I would not refer to this property as 'disgusting'. A thorough cleaning of these items would help with the overall impression along with providing basic cleaning supplies and extra toilet paper and light bulbs. Overall, we are very pleased with the location and convenience of being right across the street from the beach. The cost was considerably less than other properties in the Edisto area and we would definitely stay at this property again.

Worst VRBO Stay in 20 Years
Overall impression of this home is "DISGUSTING". I sent multiple messages to the owner about concerns of cleanliness and a kitchen window that would not close or lock. He is yet to respond to any messages. In 20 years, I have never encountered a property in this condition. The first day I bought $50 of cleaning supplies to clean the home myself because there were no cleaning supplies available in the home (other than dishwasher tablets and clothes detergent). I took lots of pictures but this site does not allow uploads. There was a horrible smell of what smelled like urine but could not tell if it all came from the bathroom or if it was on the furniture as well so we did not sit on any of the furniture during our stay. I used two cans of Lysol neutralizer but only helped for a few minutes. The whole place was very dusty and the HVAC intake return had 1/4 inch of dust caked to it along with dust hanging from the ceiling. The blinds and curtains were so dirty, we didn't want to touch them so we didn't open any of them. The ceiling fans were caked with dust so could not turn them on. There were screens torn in windows, cracked windows, mold and mildew on the exterior of the home. There should be a standard and common courtesy to provide and clean maintained property. This is not what I consider a standard VRBO property that I have experienced the last 20 years of vacationing. I did not read the 24 hour VRBO rule until Monday night or I would have rejected this property.

Edisto Beach Trip
We came to Edisto for a quick weekend trip. Overall the house was great. It was large, clean and the check in process was easy. Per the listing there are no sheets (but an option to utilize some in the house) so plan accordingly. The location was amazing, directly across the street from public beach access and walkable to many of the islands restaurants. We would definitely stay again!

Everything you need in a great location
My friends and I had a FANTASTIC beach holiday at the Gull's Nest! Everything that was needed was available at the house, we could see and hear the ocean from the front deck and we absolutely LOVED the outdoor shower and area of rinsing off under the house (especially for our dogs). Close enough to walk the beach to the State Park too. Loved it!

July trip to Edisto
We had a great vacation. This is a classic Edisto cottage that has been renovated over the years. Kitchen has everthing you need and bathrooms have updated showers. Outside shower with hot water and screened in porch was our favorite thing about the house. Location is great, very short walk to the beach!

Beach Rental
The vacation rental was fantastic. The house was big enough for all seven of us. Beach access was even better. You walked across the street and you was on the beach. The screen in porch was the highlight of each evening. The house could have been dusted better and the window seals cleaned. We did kill a few palmetto bugs in the rooms that were close to the sun but I am sure that is expected. In the kitchen, we could not find a muffin pan or a toaster but we survived without it. Overall, it was fantastic and our family plans to go back next year!!!

45 years of visiting the Gull Nest-Our home away from home Z
Our family has been staying at the Gull’s Nest for 45 years and love it as much as the first day. It’s everything you need to relax, enjoy time with family or friends and a quick walk to the beach. Now we get to continue our love for the Gull’s Nest with our daughter and have a new generation of fun. As long as it’s available, this house is our first pick on Edisto. We loved this place. Location could not have been better across the street from beach access. Leaving the beach to grab a snack was no further of a walk than than the bathhouse at your local beach or pool. Close walk to the stores, but not so close you had to deal with the activity. Edisto (pronounces Ediss-toe) is a very quiet community, lots of privacy and miles of uncrowded beach filled with generally low key folks and families. The house itself reminded us of a really big, well-kept beach cottage. It is a not a mansion. It is not a high end efficiency suite swarming with other people's kids (go to Hilton Head) nor is it a luxury condo. It is a well-kept, adequately updated, affordable house with a gorgeous view, convenient location, and a ton of space. Grill is charcoal, not gas, that was the only thing bordering on a complaint that I would have. To be fair, there was ample charcoal and even a chimney starter provided. To me it usually isn't worth the time and effort to get that going just to throw on dogs or burgers for a few mins. The kitchen was great for preparing meals, we planned on eating out a lot but the restaurants were overcrowded and understaffed, and mostly indoors. None of them had anything close the view we had from our porch, so we ended up eating in most nights. Screen porch was a nice bonus, was not expecting it to be as spacious and well-appointed as it was. Really hoping to stay again next year. Thanks to the hosts for the opportunity to stay.

Easy access, chill vibe
Or family of 6 loved our visit to Edisto. The Gull's Nest was laid back and perfectly located, a great fit for families. We especially loved the beach right across the street, Botany Bay, and Whaley's Cafe. And the Food Lion, less than a mile down the road, has a surprisingly delicious and cheap breakfast! Thank you for the opportunity to make great memories!

The location is great with a lot of space in the rooms. The furniture and beds need a lot of attention. The outside of the house is not kept, had to dodge trees to get in. The property did allow pets and was right across the street from the beach. Walking distance to shops, grocery and dining. Will look at other options if I visit the area again.

Was here with my 3 kids 8,10,12 and husband for 3 nights. Its location if perfect for walking to the beach, restaurants, and the store. The house it's self was very homey there were some things left in the one shower from a previous renter but overall the house was clean.

BREAK IN FLORIDA TRIP
We love Edisto as we've been there several years, however, Gull's Nest beach house was dirty - I am sorry to say. Owner needs to check up on his cleaning/maintenance crew. We were supposed to stay Sat. until Tues morning but ended up leaving Monday night after biking, hiking to Jeremy Inlet & enjoying a meal at Whaley's - one of of our favorite restaurants.

The location and overall "vibe" of this house is amazing. It's like staying at your divorced uncle's beach house that he inherited from your grandparents - comfortable, fun, but not fastidiously maintained... Kids and dogs have taken toll on the window blinds, and you might want to include mattress covers when packing your bed linens. Overall furniture and surfaces were reasonably clean (except the showers - they weren't "gross" but they clearly hadn't been cleaned), but my mom would probably spend three days cleaning before she'd be comfortable - be advised, Karen From the Comments. :) My husbands grandparents used to own a house down the street and it was kind of adorable the little tell tale signs of generations of family caring for the home to varying degrees. Treat this home thoughtfully - it's not a cookie cutter Wayfair job from Vacasa. Thank you, Benton, for hosting an affordable yet spacious place for our family to make some great memories. It was the perfect spot for us to enjoy our last days with our beloved pup before she succumbed to cancer.

Great house for our group. We had 6 men that were looking for great location to the beach. Benton was quick to respond, and allowed us to check in early as our group was coming from different locations in the country. House has a great cleaning station and incredible kitchen.

After staying at the property, my husband, daughter and niece got lice!!! It was the worst experience ever. The bed top covers were dirty. Sand was on the couches and floors when we got there. It was as if the house wasn't cleaned between customers. Dirt was visible on the walls. The door windows had finger and hand prints from customers before us. I will never go back. We loved being close to the ocean, but getting lice and combing hair for nits every night for a week was the worst.

2021 Family Vacation
We rented this property for our annual family beach trip with two families plus grandparents and our dog. The main road was a little busy the first day with check ins so we were a little concerned but it was not a problem any of the days. Under the house was the perfect spot for the little kids to ride their bikes while we got dinner ready. There were many late night card games on the screened in porches and we definitely got our steps in walking to get ice cream every night! There was a small issue with the tv caused by the storm right before we arrived and it was quickly addressed first thing Monday morning. The kitchen was fully stocked with tons of utensils, pots, pans, etc which can be rare with rentals. Everything was great!

House was setup really well. We enjoyed the rental and the location was great and as stated. The screen doors were not squared up and the back door you could get open by jiggling the knob but we had no other problems. Noticed on the last day there that the walkway around the shower was very slippery - almost fell washing off chairs. You may want to put rubber down on that to keep someone from falling. I would stay there again... it was great with those few minor flaws. We loved it!

Had a really nice vacation with family. Very close to everything within walking distance. Awesome views from the porch. Very spacious. The dishwasher did not work properly. Had to hand wash some dishes . Two cooking eyes on stove did not work. No trash bags for trash, very little toilet paper left had to buy our own. Brought back memories of childhood days spent there at the beach.... Old school Edisto beach house. Enjoyed our stay !!
