Again, I apologize for not being able to accommodate your request for a late checkout. Although we were able to allow an early check in, the cleaning crew can’t do late check out in high season. Unfortunately, you did not alert me during your stay that your medium-firm bed was more firm than preferred. If you had, I would’ve directed you to the 3 options of variable softness mattress toppers. Although you’re the first to complain, I have back pain issues & provide softness options for others. I will update the house manual with specific direction to look in the closet where 3 different soft toppers-2 in.& 3 in. foam and one down, are available. Given your 35 years visiting, I’m happy you appreciate our classic Edisto beach cottage as evident in pics. Although slow, we do all reno ourselves in the off season to keep costs low & rates reasonable. We love to host wonderful families like yours. I hope you continue to love Edisto!

Rebecca, Im so happy you enjoyed the house despite the rain! Because of the flat topography, flooding can occur most anywhere in the Town. The fenced in side yard is new construction. My shepherd agrees about the need for more freedom off leash. As do I. We do all work ourselves, between bookings, making it impossible to perfect all ongoing projects prior each guest stay. That said, fingers crossed, we will build steps into the side yard this spring! I’m sorry about the rain. The house sits on 132 feet of lagoon frontage, natural and highly beneficial to the island ecosystems. Like most Edistonians we cannot hastily “improve” the drainage on our property so I am proceeding slowly and with caution. Given climate change, it is always best to keep a keen eye on the tides and the weather when visiting any coastal area. As the Edisto town website explains, paraphrased and quoted as follows, “our wetlands provide a wide range of benefits to the human and natural systems; provide breeding and feeding grounds for fish and wildlife, create and enhance waterfowl habitat and protect habitats for rare and endangered species. These areas support a high rate of plant growth and maintain bio-diversity and the integrity of the ecosystem. The flood plain areas provide open space, aesthetic pleasure, and areas for active and passive uses. Flooding is a major hazard in the Town of Edisto Beach. The greatest threat for flooding in Edisto Beach is from storm surge associated with a hurricane from the Atlantic Ocean. Edisto Beach has experienced many hurricanes and other severe storms throughout our history, the most recent of which were Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and Hurricane Irma in 2017. In 2011 Tropical Storm Irene resulted in heavy flooding in parts of the island. Remember though, flooding doesn't have to come from hurricanes. Heavy rain and even extremely high tides can cause floods. Because of the flat topography, flooding can occur most anywhere in the Town.”
