Lovely hotel in terms of contemporary decor and great facilities (pool and spa). Only downsides were that The room had a horrible damp smell and the breakfast a bit average

Great stay - great room
Executive room is spacious; comfortable bed, good desk area for work, TV offers German and English channels, the power shower is brilliant, good amenities in the room: wardrobe, suitcase space, ironing board etc. Hotel WiFi is good for phone use but not for laptop connection. Hotel staff were friendly, especially the young man who is dreaming to work at The Shangri-la in London - wonderful customer service from him. Room was exceptionally clean, with good natural light in the room (#386). Will definitely stay again.

Excellent remedy
When we told the manager about an HVAC issue (our room was too hot), he immediately did everything to remedy the problem, including giving us multiple choices of rooms to move to.

It is very nice, I always use it when in dusseldorf, since it was Nikko Hotel, but there are no more toiletries, shoe shine, etc.

Very unfriendly staff and painful communication
Old hotel, staff is not helpful. I wanted to change a harder pillow but was told unpossible that all the pillows are the same. It was a lie, my colleague stayed in another room did has a harder pillow. I eventually got it but the communication was just painful. Also receptionist not helpful either, one hairless guy refused to help me with my heavy luggage and seems “angry” that I asked for help. He replied me very boldly that they don’t have enough staff to help. Also one day my room was not cleaned. I called for room cleaning but they also refused at first. The over impression is that it was so painful to communicate with every staff, they tried all means, even lying, to avoid extra work. No smile, no one say sorry etc… will not come again definitely.

Hotel in a good area, plenty of decent restaurants nearby. Central location for getting around. Hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. Highly recommend staying here

It is no longer a Japanese hotel and naturally the service is not very good. I still see a few Japanese men here and there, expecting Japanese quality. First of all, the kettle in the room is broken and the fan in the bathroom is also broken. Shower and running water come on at the same time. The good thing is the location. It is in the middle of the Japanese town.

Terribly short staffed. Have to pay for everything as you go on meals?! Check in, check out any any interaction with reception involved very long wait times. Terrible lift set up. Have stayed 5 times over 7 years but that will be the very last. 😩

Clayton Hotel is a fantastic choice for Düsseldorf. I found it to be clean and very modern with a beautiful and spacious room and wonderful bathroom. The on property amenities were great and represented a real value given the price I paid. Would definitely stay again.

Terrible experience because of staff
Service and management are both terrible and extremely rude. management especially refused to even listen to a simple request citing some hotel policy that is not provided anywhere in writing. In short just a terrible experience with staff. In addition any purchase made at hotel cannot be charged to your room and needs to be paid for immediately yet they charge your credit card at check in for incidentals.

We love the location but the rooms are getting dated. Our room was also dirty with the previous occupants socks still on the floor. Bathroom was in bad shape with dirty shower tiles.

Underwhelming
Completely underwhelming given the cost of the rooms. Very dated rooms in need of refurbishment. Spa, gym and pool wasn't open until the afternoon which the reception staff wasn't even aware of. Breakfast was very basic. Majority of the staff were not very friendly when serving.

Excellent stay at the Nikko with a big group of friends. Easy check-in experience, clean, well equipped rooms. Easy for nearby bars and restaurants. Reception staff very friendly. Loan of umbrellas on rainy days saved the day! All our group were well pleased and the prices was good value too.
