This is worse than 2* in Europe
The hotel lacks maintenance, the reception staff is not friendly and not well trained. Their site shows a nice fitness room, which is not in the hotel. This hotel should be part of the “ibis budget” chain instead of the pullman group. They’re just not on par with the brand while they charge you fully for it.

Pullman Douala
I was staying on a short business trip and the hotel was in good location to reach my meetings. Efficient pick up and drop off at airport and WiFi which is important while travelling was good.

Would not recommend
The hotel is outdated, especially the bathrooms, and the bed linen are very worn out. On the floor I stayed there was a very persistent smell of old humidity. A leak also caused flooding of numerous rooms in the hotel, including the lobby. The staff was not particularly accommodating to resolve any problems.

Staff are confused
The price quoted on Expedia is not respected. Staff kept me for 2 hours hostage in order to resolve the price disparity! They claimed it was my fault because such a price is not possible! Do not book this hotel through a third party! It’s a scam!

Good hotel for the area
The hotel was nice for the area. The rooms were clean and the air conditioning worked. The pool area was relaxing and the pizzas were excellent. The lobby is a little dated and had water dripping from the ceiling due to the humidity. There were several good restaurants and shopping within walking or a short taxi ride.

Our check in time was not so pleasant as hotel was trying to downgrade us due to the rate we paid through Hotels.com Their reservations system need to work more closely with all the websites their hotel is listed to prevent such disagreements. After several back and fourth, we were finally given a more reasonable room! Our stay was overall good. The maintenance of the hotel is quite lacking!

A hotel that tries hard and only just makes the gr
This is an hotel that tries had because it has to. Food is good and the breakfast buffet sparse but adequate. The hot buffet in not for non-Cameroonians. The only thing available for the more Western taste was eggs to order and pancakes. Dinners were good and the freshly baked bread rolls were a treat. Rooms are small but clean and adequate. Service, not great and smiles were few and far between. The area around the hotel is safe enough but there is no reason to venture out. Nothing to do, see or buy.

Conveniently located with dedicated staff
Compared to most hotels in Douala, the quality of service of the Meridien is superior. While the hotel is conveniently located, its infrastructure and amenities need some upgrade. It was pleasing to see that the hotel management is working toward that. The staff is well trained, courteous and very professional. The rooms are cleaned although the room rate remain high compared to international standards. Overall the stay at the hotel is pleasant

The room rate is too high and the service quite mediocre overall. There is absolutely nothing that justified the price charged by the Meridien in Douala. The rooms are quite modest, the food quite average and the hotel design is actually quite ugly.

One of the best in West Africa
I have stayed in several other SPG brand hotels in the region and this hotel stay was by far the best. Very friendly and accommodating front desk staff. I ate twice at the outdoor poolside restaurant and the wait staff was the most friendly I have encountered in Africa. Food was good. room was clean, shower was hot, property was safe. I will definitely return on my next trip to Douala.

The first night I spent in this hotel recently was horrible, the elevator wobbled, the TV did not work and there was no hot water. There have been significant improvements since, my room was clean, there was hot water and the TV worked. The Hotel could invest in some lighting in the corridors which look a little gloomy.

Great service, tired hotel
The Meridien in Douala is probably lucky that there is no competition in the upper end of the market. The hotel will apparently be renovated during 2014, which is what the bedrooms need badly, but this is true of the whole hotel - it is very dated. However, all is not bad - it is clean and comfortable enough and the staff are very pleasant and attentive, nearly all speaking good English. There is nothing much in the area, but is close to the airport and is probably still the best place in Douala to stay. Irritatingly they charge you for internet after 2 hours (about Euro13 for the day), which I find ridiculous - internet should be free at the rate charged!

Breakfast good value and excellent quality, dinner disapointing, overcharged, poor quality.Although clean and safe hotel desperatley needs upgrading, would rate as 3 * max, increadably overpriced for what you actually receive. Quite area of town whch s a plus. If on holiday do not stay here,especially with children, small pool and no otehr facilities

Nice poolside restaurant.
My first visit to Douala. Spent the first night in another hotel which was sub-standard. Moved to Le Meridien and was pleasantly surprised. The room was nice and clean and the bed and bedding was first class. The room was on the small side. Will stay there again on my next visit.
