Short family getaway
We enjoyed our short time in Dolwyddelan. The house had lots of room, and was in a great location to explore Snowdonia and other parts of Northern Wales.

Lovely location
It was a nice property in a great location lovely views on surroundings peaceful and relaxing. not too far from shops and some great drives to places in the Northern area. Yes it’s a great spot with lots of room but needs to be centered on basics It was cold and wet but no heating on we had to set the system. It was a bit too dusty even for an old building. Barely no toilet roll. No hand towels lists of to do’s Needs TLC and a bit of investment. In total great place but not great value

Dear Brian. The first sentence on the House rules says ‘tell me immediately if things aren’t right then I can fix them immediately’. It always puzzles me that people put up with things they don’t like and don’t tell the owner but instead post a poor review online after their stay. Why do this when most things can be sorted straight away? I was however, very disappointed to read your review. None of your complaints should have been the case. The heating should have been set up and running so you had a warm welcome and the other housekeeping details don’t match the usual high standards set by myself and my housekeeper. I will follow this up immediately.

Beautiful house, beautiful views, beautiful stay!
This house was perfect for our two families. Our kids had so much fun on the piano and in the back garden, while we adults enjoyed the wonderful conservatory. Easy walk to the village, and to the waterfall and castle.

Exceptional, peaceful, beautiful place
What a wonderful place to sit and write music! It’s so rare to find accommodation with a piano, and to have those perfect views created great inspiration, through the rain and the sunshine. Close enough to the village to not feel isolated, but far enough away to not be disturbed, I’ll certainly return.

This was our second stay although the weather really wet we had a fantastic time. The grounds that the house are in are stunning with amazing views and the river that runs through is breathtaking. The owner is very helpful and we will be back, definitely. The conservatory is Fantastic if the weather is bad as it looks over the amazing hills and is really tranquil so relaxing.

Peaceful pretty location close to village
We had a lovely time in the gorgeous countryside as two families celebrating a 50th with a zipworld trip. The village is convenient but we had privacy. Communication was immediate when we were not given extra pull out bed sheets. We would highly recommend this property and would love to stay again. Field s and river were beautiful and the dog loved chasing the butterflies. We did not need a modern house; it was lovely as it is.

A Perfect Location
The property is ideally placed for Zip World. The views from the back of the property are spectacular. The welcome pack was a nice extra. Four comfortable bedrooms, the shower downstairs was powerful. Everything as needed for a weekend break. The cottage felt homely.

A fabulous stay
A fabulous stay with friends to climb Snowdon and fly like a bird on the fastest zipline. The house was excellently located to get to all the places we wanted. There is even a little castle just a short walk away. The sound of the river was very calming and we had some gorgeous weather. The house itself is lovely and cosy with all the things we needed for self catering. I misread the ad and thought there were 3 double beds which caused some fun when we arrived, but all was sorted with much laughter. There is lots of space inside and out. We loved the huge dining room table which meant we could all sit and eat together. We all said we wished we could stay longer and wouldn't hesitate to come again.

New year weekend
We stayed at this beautiful cottage for new year. Our group were three adults and four children ages nine, twelve and two thirteens. The cottage it’s self is huge and beautiful, if I had to give anything negative it lacks some love and attention (wallpaper peeling off the walls and none of the internal doors closed) these things we looked beyond and enjoyed the scenery from every outlook. The weather was awful but this could not be helped we did still manage to have a fabulous walk to the castle and waterfall which are a 15 minute walk away. We went down over the fields to look at the river that runs along the bottom of the land and I can only imagine how wonderful it would be in summer time. The kitchen lacked oven trays and bin bags and extra food waste bags and we felt that the recycle bins at the top of the drive should be bigger are the can one was already full when we arrived which meant we had to leave our in the kitchen bin which I did not feel happy doing as I wanted to leave the cottage as I found it. Otherwise fantastic. We are looking forward to returning in the near future.

Thank you very much for your really positive and helpful review. I will follow up those things I can deal with. Unfortunately Conwy Council are responsible for the size of the bins and that is beyond my control! I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay despite the weather.

The property is accurately described and has great character and charm. The views from the conservatory are fantastic and could just retire to their late evening and watch the sun set over the mountains. The hosts are fantastic and nothing was too much trouble highly recommended going down to the river about 100 meters down the field perfect for young children and adults alike.

What a place!!! Loved this property
Me and my family stayed here for 2 nights last week and i wished we had much longer. We were in the area to do a few activities at Zipworld and this was a perfect base. The property was quite old fashioned and has a lived in feel, but i think this is part of the charm and was very cosy. The property had everything we needed for our stay and i must say, the shower was amazing and very powerful as well. There is plenty of living space, which was perfect for us with having 2 young kids. The wifi is also really good, so if you cant do without a tv, you could comfortably watch something on your phone or tablet without buffering. If we had more time and better weather we could have also better utilised the land around the house. There are 2 fields with sheep grazing, however the best thing is the access to the river at the end of the field. On a nice day, this would be a perfect spot for the kids to have a splash and was a great spot for some stone skimming. The house is located just a few mins walk from the village, where theres a pub and a small spar. You are also a 10mins drive from Betws-y-Coed. One thing i would advise is trying to get here for the first time in daylight as i imagine the gate to the drive is hard to locate in the pitch black. There is easily enough space for a few cars, but you will need to do a bit of manoeuvring. What a place! Im already trying to plan our next stay here. Highly recommended.

Lovely house and excellent location. The view from the garden is fab and having lots of privacy is lovely and peaceful, with only the sheep for neighbours. Totally beautiful, a cosy house with Amazing views and an incredible garden
Our family of my wife, teenage son, 11 Yr old daughter, two happy dogs and myself stopped here for two gloriously sunny nights in August. The house was a lovely, clean and very cosy place to be, with good wifi (happy kids). The views are spectacular....especially as my son, one of our dogs and I were climbing Snowdon whilst there and we could see it from the back garden. The garden and adjoining fields are truly a beautiful place to be, with our particular highlight being the stunning river that flows through the land right at the bottom of the fields, we all paddled and even swam in it. I cant think of a better place for our family to spend some time than by/in that river with a picnic on its banks. Thankyou for sharing your home with us Nicky. Short break in Snowdonia
It was an absolute pleasure to stay in this wonderful cottage. The location is out of this world - nestled in the hills and mountains but only a short walk to the village. We only stayed for a few days - a 'big' birthday treat for the two of us (plus very happy dog) - but will definitely return. The house is very relaxing and cosy and we got a real sense of how happy the owner must have been living there. No TV, no digital radio - who cares! We enjoyed the utter peace and tranquillity, sitting in the conservatory enjoying the views (we did have a lovely meal and some beers at the village pub too!) The house is also a great base for exploring the surrounding areas. We can highly recommend Pont Arenig and can't wait until we can stay there again.

Superb location with wonderful views
The price was good but you could understand why as the property definitely need some TLC, but overall we had a party of seven and having so much space in the property was lovely you didn’t feel like you was in each other’s way, the views from inside the property were magnificent and even better walking around the grounds and we would as a family recommend this property to anyone as long as you can get past the dated look inside it. It have everything you needed inside ff and a smaller fridge no tv though but didn’t bother us we had tablets and the Wi-fi connection was very good, if you are a loving family or have good friends this property is a must.

Thank you for your review. You will be pleased to note that I have reviewed and replaced some of the furnishings since your visit. However, I would advise all guests to view photos of the property before booking. This is an old property, decorated and furnished appropriately for it's age. If you like modern, clean lines, white and beige this is not the house for you. The majority of our guests find the cottage relaxing, cosy and comfortable. Though our real selling point are the spectacular views from every window.

Amazing location with stunning views but the facilties were very poor
The cottage is located in a great place within Snowdonia. Superb views from the cottage and a lovely village. Fantastic to have a river running through the property. However, internally it's a different matter. Dated shabby and peeling wall paper. The downstairs toilet and shower room smelled of damp. Wardrobes and behind units were very dusty. The sofa and arm chairs are extremely old and very very uncomfortable. Not sure if they meet fire safety regulations. No pillow protectors and very poor quality pillows. No mattress protector on one bed. Not really acceptable when you think about how many different people stay at the cottage. On the plus side the WiFi was good and the kitchen was well equipped. I wouldn't normally be so hard on a property but there basic requirements that need to be met - cleanliness and comfort - and these issues have been raised by others several times in the past but nothing has been done to improve it.

Thank you for your comments. It is a great shame that you chose to make these comments in a review rather than speak to myself or my housekeeper first. Both the Home and Away website and my guest details make it clear that contacting the owner directly should always be the first port of call for any complaints. Certainly some of your issues could have been dealt with immediately. The comfort of my guests is my highest priority. So i am very sad to hear that you were nit satisfied. The majority of our guests have commented that the cottage is very clean and comfy, with character. I also noted that you had read and written in the 2015 comments book. This has now been removed and replaced to prevent any further misunderstandings. Since then the house has been redecoated, recarpeted, bedding and some beds have been replaced and I have a new housekeeper. So you can rest asured that I take immediate action when i am informed of any problems. I have to say that when I visited the property this weekend I found it spotless, including behind the wardrobes. As a result of my end of season check I have made several purchases that should benefit the continued comfort of future guests and dealt with a few minor maintenance issues. Once again, I am very sorry that you found the house did not meet your expectations.

Family stay in Snowdonia
We had a lovely family (2 adults, 2 young children and a dog!) stay here in July during a heat wave. The locations and grounds were simply stunning - the back garden leads into a field with a stream and the kids loved playing, skimming stones and trying to catch tiddlers here. All this with views of a castle and a mountains in the background! The only downside is the interior of the house itself. It is very dated which adds to its charm but some of the furniture needs replacing. The sofas in the living room need replacing as you sink a long way down when sitting on them (and none of us are particularly large!) and the bottom bunk bed mattress was so lumpy that our son had to move bed to one of the other rooms as he couldn't sleep on it. There is no TV which we didn't mind at all. The house does have a piano, a chess set and lots of books to read and games to play. There is a decent shop + pub just down the road and the location is about 35-40 minutes from Llanberis. We had a great time and have already recommended this cottage to a friend. It is a lovely base to explore the outside and the surrounding countryside. We were very lucky with the weather when we were there!

Lots of character and very roomy. Great views of Snowdonia!
Our family of 6 had a very enjoyable stay. Home has lots of space and nice sun room overlooking mountains. Lots of character. Just beware, if you on the tall side, you will likely bump your head a few times. Low doorways and ceilings in the bathrooms! Town is very close with Spa store and has great place to eat at Ellen's Castie Hotel. Location is very central for all there is to see in the area.

Great place, could do with a good clean
Very tired place, very dirty. I had to clean the bunk bed room, and remove a layer of cobweb before I'd let my children sleep in there. I dropped a banana on the dinning room floor. I considered the 3 second rule, but when I picked it up, it was covered in dog hair and dirt. The wallpaper is mouldy and peeling off, all over the place. The oven took 50 mins to reach temperature. The beds creaked so bad, they wake you as you move, and the bedding is cheap and nasty All this is such a shame, as the location is epic, and the house could be so welcoming, with just a tiny bit of effort. I really hope the owner reads this and makes some changes so that other people's stay isn't as disappointing as ours
Response from VrboOwner on 21 Mar 2020
It is always very disappointing when someone posts a bad review, this is especially so when a guest has failed to inform the owner of any problems at the time. Complaints and issues such as this guest experienced can usually be rectified immediately, all that is needed is a quick phone call. All my guests receive an information sheet prior to arrival, this includes phone numbers of who to contact if there are any problems. My housekeeper is always available. Having said that, all these issues are now being addressed. It would appear that a key member of staff was taken into hospital. Unfortunately, as a consequence of this, our usual high standards had slipped, due to Please accept our apologies.

Wonderful Country Home in Snowdonia
Our family group of 8 enjoyed our brief (2 day) stay in this country home. The home has space for 7 in beds and a small cot suitable for a child or small adult. On the positive side, the home is cozy, comfortable and well-situated within a 3-minute walk of the village of Dolwyddelan. The home is well-appointed and there are amazing views of the mountains and Castell Dolwyddelan from the home and garden. The babbling river and "hidden" garden walk added to the charm of the home. Also, the location is convenient for visiting both Snowdonia and Conwy and the owner has lots of information about the sights, activities and hikes in the area on hand at the home. Also, and importantly, the owner's communications were very timely and clear. We did not cook any meals, so I cannot speak to the kitchen facilities other than to say they appeared adequate, though the kitchen is somewhat compact. The only negatives of mention were the few cobwebs and small spiders we found and lack of hot water upon our arrival. The hot water was easily remedied by switching the boiler on and the spiders -- well, it is the country and a certain amount of critters and insects are to be expected. Neither of these things detracted from our very pleasant stay. In fact, I have already recommended this home to a family member and friend.

Great setting, spacious, good value. Would consider returning.
Found the house no problem, loved the views of the mountains and the castle through the valley. The house was a Good size for the 8 of us. (4 adults, 1 teen 3 young) the kids loved the garden! The decor as others have mentioned is dated but that added to the homely feel for us. I would agree though there are a few minor repairs that are needed. The conservatory is big and the views great but the door needs looking at and the seat cover needs replacing, the living room was cosy with books and a few games, the kitchen was fine, dining room was big enough for us all to eat and play games at night. There was a spare kids duvet we found at night but didn't realise till the morning it had a load of holes in it, just wants binning! The spare fold out bed isn't great although my 7 year old had no complaints. And finally there is crack in the tile in the shower that wants sorting or it will get worse and become more costly to fix. The water pressure and temperature was great though, no complaints about that! Overall I was pleased with the house, we all had a great time and I was pleased with the price. The house doesn't need "modernising" but with a few minor repairs and maintaining it would get 5 stars. Thanks for a great few days.

Thank you for your review. I will make a note of the minor repairs you have listed. Unfortunately guests do not report the damage they cause and repairs can't always be dealt with immediately between changeovers. Everything you mention is news to me, with the exception of the fold out bed which has been repaired. We don't even have a 'kids' duvet, maybe previous guests left it behind. I will chase all these things up with my housekeeper.

Perfect for what we needed.
We are two families with two boys each, 9 and 11 years old. We came to Wales to visit Bounce Below and after having no luck on Airbnb, we found this perfect house at a not too expensive price (about £60/family/night). The house is clean, quaintly decorated and has real Welsh character. It was nice to see the family pictures and to feel that the house has been so loved. The garden was perfect for the boys-a field to run around in! The stream also provided a lot of fun for them. The village is walking distance and we made use of the hotel for a drink and the Spar to get cheap postcards and provisions we had forgotten. We spent one day climbing up Snowdon (a half hour or so drive) and it was sunny with perfect views. The next day we went to Bounce Below (advance booking essential) which is literally down the road from the property. The house has four good sized rooms and both double bedrooms had views of the mountains. The double beds were a bit rickety and even turning over made lots of squeaks which we rectified the second night by putting a blanket between the headboard and the wall! The housekeeper (Diana) was there when we arrived and she was so friendly and helpful. The extra bed (guest bed) which we needed had broken slats but we managed. The shower downstairs is good and the house was lovely and warm. The kitchen is well-stocked although the oven is a bit slow. We would love to come back if we visit again. Last year we were ripped off for £100 a night with a cold and dreary bunk room in a Youth Hostel which looked beautiful on the photos (except we were sent down to a 1970s outhouse which looked like schools stayed there!) so it was great to be in a proper house at a very reasonable cost. Thank-you for having us in your lovely house!

Quaint, cozy house although the fireplace is not real it still adds warmth to the house. The wallpaper is quirky and you can feel this is a house that is loved and where a lot of memories were shared. Great base to go exploring the peaks of Snowdonia. Only visited in winter, but the property has a lovely outdoors area that would be great in warm weather

Cosy retreat
We stayed for new year and loved the cottage and its quiet location. There were 8 of us including teenagers and there was enough space and everything we needed .The heating is fab and we didnt miss the TV at all.The location is close to all the sights in Snowdonia and the local pubs were very friendly.
Stayed 3 nights in Dec 2016

4/10 Poor

The property had the necessary features and adequately catered for the number staying.
Whilst the property had wifi, there was no TV. In addition, the soft furnishing had no fire retardant labels being rather dated. This also applied to the electric cooker whose "solid" rings are now not recommended for use (NEW World cookers are no longer manufactured). There was no sofa bed as advertised, and the "put-me-up" was broken. There was no "fire blanket" or extinguisher in the kitchen. The central heating and hot water worked well and the property was clean and tidy and plenty of parking. It was surprising that the owner had not supplied washing up liquid or condiments such as Salt. In conclusion, I would recommend that the property should be up-graded by the provision fire resistant furniture, TV, a modern cooker and fire fighting equipment (extinguisher and blanket) in the kitchen.

All my reviews for 2016 have been 5* including someone who stayed just before this guest! I'm sorry the guest found the property lacking. It is also unfortunate that they choose to write a review before contacting me directly. All guests are given both mine and my housekeeper’s phone number so they can make contact immediately, should anything be lacking or need repairing. Direct contact is always the best way to resolve issues. As an owner of rental property I am required to keep up to date with current legislation: New World cookers are still manufactured and they are indeed recommended for rental properties, a quick search shows that a cooker identical to the one in the cottage (bought 18months ago) can be purchased from Currys and Argos. A fire blanket hangs up in the kitchen. All Smoke alarms are new and working. The description of the house on the website makes clear there is no TV, there is no sofa bed listed either, so my description is honest and accurate. Condiments, tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, toilet paper etc are always provided. I will check with my housekeeper on this instance, however, she has seldom let me down. Had she been called, I know she would have come immediately with anything that was needed.
