Hosts Paul and Brenden were a delight! Staying at The Grand is like taking a step back in time. The facilities are superbly renovated and the old charm of early Australia has been retained throughout the property. The rooms are extremely comfortable with all the modern amenities and the breakfast cooked by our hosts was absolutely delicious. The property is conveniently located a short walk into town where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend The Grand on Macfie to anyone stopping in Devonport. You will not be disappointed!

Grand it certainly is, with enormous style and character. Comfy beds, beautiful rooms and decor, charming hosts, delicious breakfast served on gold rimmed china - what's not to love? If you are there on a Sunday afternoon, ask about their cream teas in advance - the clotted cream is home made!

Absolutely loved The Grand - old world charm lovingly restored and furnished beautifully, sympathetic to the era. The hosts are warm, friendly, very hospitable and informative. We had a great sleep because the bed was so comfortable. The breakfast is exceptional - I'm sorry we will miss the next High Tea. We don't usually B&B, but will more often now, Thank you Paul and Brenden, you are excellent hosts! I want to come back.

We loved the four poster bed and bunk bed for our daughter. It was like stepping back in time with all the mod cons. The breakfast was magnificent. The owners are fabulous.

This is a beautiful large vintage house and can be a little confusing. The room was comfortable and large with furniture to go with the period of the house. The cooked to order breakfast was excellent.

Treat yourself toba stay at The Grand on Macfie
A beautiful double storey property in Devonport, amazingly and lovingly renovated and restored by the owners, with tastefull, elegant heritage furnishings throughout. Our room had an incredible sea view overlooking the terminal where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. Stunning! The owners have also created beautiful sitting rooms where guests can sit with a quiet beverage. The room had a 4 poster bed, the furnishings were beautiful and the whole experience exuded comfort, elegance and style. Highly recommended.

What can I say other than, if I could, I would rate The Grand at Macfie 10s across yhe board. I had decided to treat myself for my birthday and there couldn't have been a better place to do so. Paul and Brendan are such a team making this an unforgettable experience from the setting to the exquisite food not to mention the High Tea! They went above and beyond even taking me to my bus with a private tour enroute. Do not pass up this experience.

This boutique hotel is unique and beautiful, a real treat, but one thing put me off this last visit - lots of very loud hacking coughing coming from the kitchen as my breakfast was being prepared. Given the prevalence of horrible colds and flu's right now, let alone Covid, I don't think someone with a cough out to be preparing food. .

What a shame you didn't bring this issue to our attention rather than waiting until you got home to write an incorrect version of events. If you'd bothered to enquire, we would have advised that the coughing you heard was from our gardener outside of the kitchen and obviously was nowhere near the preparation of your breakfast. Sometimes the obvious to you might not be the case. You would have been far better off asking us and we would have advised you. As you mentioned that you would love to bring your partner next time, clearly it wasn't a major issue anyway, but it helps if you ask so you can be informed rather than making assumptions that aren't correct.

As you've provided nothing about your experience and as we can think of no guest that hasn't had anything other than a brilliant stay with us, we can only assume you're blaming our property for a bad stay you had elsewhere. Disappointing to say the least.

What a fantastic place to stay. The period decor is absolutely outstanding and lovely to see. The hosts Brendan and Paul's attention to detail was exemplary and service outstanding. Best breakfast (included) I have had at a hotel for a very long time. I would recommend a stay at the Grande to everybody.

A Perfectly Grand B&B in Devonport.
It’s hard to imagine a better run B&B than The Grand on MacFie. The building is full of character and has been lovingly renovated complete with a variety of period furniture and fittings. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the two hosts whether it’s carrying a heavy suitcase upstairs, providing local knowledge on places to visit or eat our, proper HP sauce at breakfast from the ‘family heirloom’ bottle! The Hotel is also well located being only an easy 5 minute walk into town or the river-side. Their is a choice of accommodation in Devonport but the Grand on MacFie, really has no real competition, particularly for a couple like ourselves looking for comfort, peace and quiet and a good breakfast. In fact it’s almost worth going to Devonport just to stay at the Grand on MacFie.

Beautiful heritage property with large rooms and communal spaces. The included breakfast was delicious and owner/managers were friendly and went above and beyond to share travel tips and accommodate our needs (including waiting for us to arrive off the Spirit of Tas to check in). Great location and easy parking. The complimentary shortbread was delicious.

This was the last night of our 3 week Tasmanian road trip before heading off on the morning ferry. We wished we'd been able to stay longer at The Grand on Macfie because the hotel is simply beautiful with its superb period furnishings and decor, its luxe comforts and all because of the obvious dedication and love of the owners. We stated in the Queen Suite and it was comfort plus plus plus. The very high bed was so comfy that it was hard to leave in the morning. The cooked to order breakfast and coffee in the dining room was delicious. Many thoughtful touches made this special hotel even more memorable including complimentary shortbreads which were appreciated with coffee on the ferry home. Next time we come to Tasmania The Grand will be our first stop and we'll stay longer to soak up more of the beauty of its grounds and gorgeous gardens, location with views and rooms. A stunning achievement which can be enjoyed now by many travellers and locals, and well priced. They also offer a High Tea which I'm sure would be a highlight. Congratulations to the owners.

As the property is over 120 years old, surely it wasn't a surprise that the property is old and of a bygone era. If old properties aren't your thing, then perhaps you should have stayed at a brand new hotel. Our travellers are discerning folks that prefer the old ways of doing things like personal service and attention to detail. It would seem you would prefer sterile and new with little to no contact from staff. No mention of the magnificent breakfast you enjoyed and how comfortable the beds were as you told us. Rather disappointing in your very unbalanced review. You found the one thing you weren't thrilled with and made that the only focus of your unfair and unbalanced review.

Sensational property. Very historic home that is well maintained and presented. Rooms are warm and spacious. Views over Davenport are great. Watching the departure of the Spirit of Tasmania from the balcony a highlight. Highly recommend staying here.
