Hotel is walking distance to all Como. Clean and helpful staff. Good room size. Breakfast was included and was very good. Wi-Fi internet was very slow, good only to get mail. Towels were just enough, could have used an extra one. Overall, at good price, I would recommend it.

Not being familiar wit Como, it was a bit of a challenge to find the apartment. Parking in Coma is at a premium and we ended up in an expensive hourly parking garage. However after finding the place the location was great. right in the middle of the city center and close of shops, food, and the waterfront. The owner met us at the apartment ad was a pleasure to deal with.
It is the cheapest place to stay in Como and in an excellent location to access the train station and the lake. Lovely views out to the Church and mountains too. The hotel is very clean and was visited daily by the maid. The only downside in August is the lack of air conditioning in the attic room, although the fan did provide some relief from the 35 degree heat.
My family all enjoyed our stay at the Barchetta Excelsior very much. The rooms were in good order with excellent air conditioning. The towels and sheets were changed every day, which was great as the weather was so hot. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was the best we could have asked for - right near the ferries and the Duomo. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Superficially an ideally situated place but noisy. Hotel front desk over assertive and aggressive in contrast to charming and helpful room staff. A demand for payment upon entry was most surprising as the hotel held credit card particulars beforehand. The hotel senior staff might benefit from 'charm school'. It is a hotel that but for its noise problem has the potential to excel.
The hotel was difficult to find as it was above a restaurant and wasn't well signposted. The free parking offered for our hire car was in a disused construction site which was approx 300 metres from the hotel (padlocked by a staff member).
Our room was up a flight of stairs and not accessible by lift.Rooms on higher floors were accessible from a lift that began on our level. The staff were helpful with taking our luggage to the room.
The check in staff member was friendly, but obviously busy multi-tasking, as she asked to hold our passports to complete paperwork. When we returned to collect them 30 minutes later, she still hadn't done the paperwork and took a few minutes to locate our passports which was a bit of a worry.
Our room had been refurbished, was air-conditioned, and the window was double-glazed so there was no noise from the street below. The continental breakfast was served in the restaurant below which also catered for lunch and dinner. Lake Como was only 100 metres walk (visible from our room if you put your head out the window!) and the scenic funicular railway (unfortunately closed during our stay) was approx 500 metres walk away along the lake.
The hotel is across from the train terminus which goes to Milan. The station for trains to Switzerland was approx 1 kilometre (uphill). There was a local bus stop across the road with buses to this station.
