Ideal for a luxury weekend away. Staff professional but relaxed and welcoming. Unpretentious ambiance. Breakfast and dinner high quality. Spa and swimming pool an added bonus. Location ideal for visiting Chester (close to Park and Ride) or the Welsh borders.

the property is overall a lovely place, in a nice secluded area. The only issues we found was, the hotel doesn’t have a lift & the spa is only accessible for 4 years old and up. the hotel was informed proir that we were coming with a under 1 year old, and we were told on arrival there wasn’t a lift, and we were put on the top floor of the hotel, with 2 flights of stairs. we had to lift his pram up, the whole time. Not safe and the were stairs were small. I feel if the hotel looked into the reservation more they would of been a little more understanding when it came to putting families with children especially under 1, on the top floor on the hotel, with no lift. if you wanting to spend the day in Cheshire, or the designed outlet it’s a good place to stay. just think before booking.

What a find
Stayed nearby this hotel previously without knowing it existed, what a find! After a wonderful but cold day at Chester Zoo one of the lovely staff checked me in and I had a welcome cuppa in my spacious room before warming up further in the beautiful spa area- good sized swimming pool, sauna and steam room- temperature in the steam room a little hot and members there said they would mention as this was not usual. Finished the day with a delicious steak sandwich in the comfortable bar area, served by another friendly member of staff, before a superb night's sleep. Breakfast the next morning was excellent- good continental choice of cereals, yogurt, fruit, pastries and fruit juices, and hot items to order included - bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs followed by mixed toast with preserves from the selection displayed in a miniature jar tree on each table. Coffee was provided in an elegant stainless steel jug so remained hot for top ups, and the room had a very relaxed feel with background music at the right level. Staff said how much they enjoy working there and you could sense the pride in what it has to offer, including the gardens they told me to make sure I visited before I left; stunning, even at this time of year. Lawns, herbaceous beds, home grown produce, woodland and ponds - birds singing and clumps of snowdrops in the winter sunshine. Amazing. (The minor mark down -original windows in the bedroom mean there is condensation inside- maybe unfair to mention but honest.)

Lovely hotel. Superior double room was huge well worth paying a little bit extra. Robes and slippers were included in this room, which helped to go down to the spa pool ready. The pool was warm and pleasant. We used the restaurant whilst there, nice service and reasonably priced.

Extra charge for a full English when you’ve already paid for breakfast isn’t great. Electric vehicle charging should be free like in other hotels. Rooms need renovation. Can hear noise from other rooms.

This might once have been a hotel deserving of four stars. Single panes in windows with old frames, a devastated chair, plaster peeling off the walls and more... more. Additionally, the swimming pool has cold water. Overall... I wouldn't want this at home, let alone in a four-star hotel.

The member of staff that checked us in and out was rude abrupt and miserable and offered limited help and assistance. The room linen and towels were clean but the glasses had clearly not be washed from last guest. You could see where they had just been wiped around the mouth piece! The bath was grubby and greasy. Neither of us wanted to use it. The pool area wasn’t warm enough to sit on the loungers and there were used paper water cups all around the pool and also in the sauna and steam room. So I presume the pool area isn’t monitored or regularly checked. Would have mentioned a few of these things at checkout had the receptionist asked about our stay!!!

Paid money to use pool and have a great breakfast but both failed as pool was freezing and breakfast wasn't full English and or didn’t have pastries. Staff were brilliant, venue is brilliant. Would be fantastic during the summer with lovely conservatory and grounds. Building is beautiful and rooms comfortable.

The wedding was faultless other than there was no one at the bar many times during the night. Sunday night we had the same issue and ended up walking to reception asking if anyone could come to the bar to serve. We'd waited for nearly 15 mins and others were coming in too. The room had not been cleaned properly, empty tin can on radiator, missing TV remote, cobwebs and long standing spiders on walls. Firm lumpy bed. Albeit the spa was fabulous and all the food delicious.

Ok so here goes It was the food that saved this review The evening meal on Friday night was amazing, it was only surpassed by the phenomenal service received by the restaurant staff. A little dissatisfied that there was an additional charge for an English breakfast. Now the bad news. The rooms are very tired. The shower screen does not fit, and when you have a shower you flood the bathroom. Only 1 towel and hand towel for use as a couple when you arrive. TV has been recycled from the 1990’s and had to be retuned as we could only receive one channel. The bed was 2 singles picked together. In the morning they had separated. Sash window was filthy around the frame. Whilst there are a lot and I mean a lot of negatives. These are things that can be fixed and rectified really easily. The only saving grace was that the restaurant and breakfast staff saved the review from being worse.

The restaurant was really disappointing. We had dinner in another hotel the eve, for the same price the food was much better. A lot of ingredients were not served in the food that we paid. For breakfast they say they serve home made honey, but it was golden syrup. The swimming pool does not have private changing rooms, which is not ideal for childrens. The carpet of the room was dirty
