This was a fantastic find. Beautiful little guest house in the middle of town with the most welcoming of hosts and a gorgeous room. Absolute recommendation for anyone staying in franshoek

One night in Franschoek
We stayed for one night to do a wine tasting/lunch at boschendal. Very warm welcome, comfortable room and a great breakfast. There is a pool onsite also with a nice garden area. Recommend! Franschoek was lovely with a lot of restaraunts, bars, cafes and shops.

Maison Chablis is a gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of luxurious Cape winelands, Franschhoek. My stay here was wonderful. The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful. It made my visit to this town really enjoyable. I would definitely book here again.

Lovely stay
We had the friendliest check in and check out process. Our room was large and clean. We had the pool all to ourselves. The breakfast had many options and our eggs were tasty. The guest house is in walking distance to everything.

Stayed at this delightful guesthouse many times. It is always a joy. The owner, James, is so welcoming and accomodating. The rooms are traditional, spotless and have everything you need. I love the garden and pool areas is tranquil and relaxing after a hard days wine tour. The location is perfect. Quite street just off the main town road with some fantastic restaurants on your doorstep. Everytime i stay, i wish i had booked for longer. Excellence value too.

James, the owner, is incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. He is passionate about his customers and their well-being. Maison Chablis is a short walk from the townsite of Franschhoek where restaurants and art galleries abound. We walked everywhere even in the evenings without any issues. The breakfast at Maison Chablis was abundant and our room was large with a comfortable king bed. There are not fitness facilities but it is a boutique hotel so none were expected. We would highly recommend Maison Chablis for anyone wanting to stay in Franschhoek.

Hi Alex, Thank you so much for a lovely and long review. We welcome you back any time. We don't have fitness facilities, but we do have an affiliation with the local health club where guest house members pay R105.00 instead of the normal fee of R200.00. They then have access to all the facilities offered at the health club ( including heated pool, spa etc). I wish you had asked :). Next time ! Best regards . The health club is on the other end of town, 850 metres away ( 10 minute walk) .James

A must for any visit to Franscheuk.
Our stay at Maison Chablis could not have been better.The property was beautifully maintained,tastefully decorated,situated very cenviently and our host James Calderwood could not have been more welcoming,friendly and helpful.

Great place
We had a quick overnight stay but wish we could have stayed longer. It was a short 2 block walk into the center of town which hosts lots of cute shops and restaurants. We did not have time to use the pool but it looked inviting. Breakfast had several hot and cold options. The host had many good suggestions for winery's and shops to visit. Our room was clean and comfortable, well appointed.

James is a fantastic host, who seems to love that we does! The smile on his face says it all. The swimming pool was lovely. The details in the rooms, like rusks for morning coffee, and the the breakfast, like the lovely fresh fruit salad, make this a wonderful place to stay. We will definitely be back.

Brilliant guesthouse
Brilliant stay at Maison Chablis. The guesthouse manager was very accommodating, the room was excellent. Very spacious. Breakfast also very good, guesthouse is located within a short walk of all local amenities. Great stay.

A few things..
A stop over in Franschhoek, picked Maison Chablis to stay. It all seemed fine, but the night got chilly (about 4-5 degrees outside). The heater in the room was not turned on nor was I informed about it, so we felt a little cold at night. Other two things are, the WiFi internet, quite slow. Tried to watch something on TV, it had 8 or 9 local channels only, not much to watch. I expected 4 stars accommodation, but it doesn’t seem to match expectations.

Hi, Thank you for your review. We don't turn on the heater. Not everyone wants a heater turned on. It takes just minutes with a heater on, for the room to be warmed up. There are two heaters in the room. The first is the Salton glass heater with a switch on the side. Its obvious and I don't think I need to explain switches as I may then sound ridiculous. :). Secondly there is right next to the door a remote for the aircon heater. By default in winter, the mode is set to heat. All you needed to do was to switch it on. The power button again is obvious on the remote. Using arrows, you can adjust the heat to suit yourselves. There was no need to feel cold at night I think if you applied yourself. We do only have 8 channels. This is the standard Commercial hotel range that Multichoice offers. Even Southern Sun Hotels, a massive hotel chain, offer only 8 channels. Some hotels may offer more. We are a guest house and we offer Skynews, BBC, Discovery channel, 2 Super Sport channels and 3 movie channels. On top of that, we have just under 200 DVD titles to choose from in reception. This is also well pointed out in the Guest Information book. We offer more than 4 stars in value but I regret that you either did not look or expected someone to hold your hand. I am afraid that your observations are not accurate. ?

The perfect B&B
Very warm welcome from James (owner). Short and precise explanation about the location, the room and the breakfast timing. He was very helpful in respect of making recommendations, helping making reservations at a very good restaurant and organised the transport for us. The location, the room and the feeling being appreciated as a guest will definitely make us coming back if we are again in the area.

Ideally located and comfortable
Very friendly small guesthouse, ideally located. Lovely pool and garden. The downstairs rooms have little garden which are pretty and some upstairs have balconies. A old French feeling to it, very charming

Excellent location
Having arrived at Maison Chablis we were greeted by James who is the owner. We were put at ease straight away by his charming and welcoming manner. Our accommodation was not in the main hotel but in the Annexe 2 doors down this is attached to James main residence. With this accommodation we had access to our own swimming pool and our own personal maid service who provided breakfast at the press of a button. We felt very privileged. If we needed any help such as planning the tours of the vineyards James was on hand to help us with the information required. Would certainly recommend and our one regret is that we could not stay longer. .

Wonderful location just off the main street. Quite room with beautiful furniture. Great little pool for a swim and very nice gardens. James, the owner, was a great host and full of good suggestions for sites in town and for the rest of our trip.

Great central location and great host !
Arrived mid morning 3 hours before check-in time the owner greeted us and could not of been more helpful ! We were bit unprepared having not booked wine tram tickets or a restaurant. Although our room wasn't ready he let us park our car on site ,gave us our room keys for access later ,provided detailed local information on wine tram for what we required and best route for our short time there and then even booked us a restaurant reservation for that evening.Superb service My only regret that we were only staying for one night !

Nice guest house very close to town
We booked 2 nights at Maison Chablis knowing that it was reasonably close to town facilities but were delighted that it was just a very short stroll to bars and restaurants. Also easy access to the wine tram. Hotel staff were welcoming and very helpful - our host actually booked our wine tram tickets for us upon arrival and advised us on the best routes and what to expect. Our room was large and furnished in keeping with the hotel 'theme' with a very large bathroom with both bath and shower.
