The hotel is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Overcliff and on a quiet road. I was inspired by the story behind the building, which is that it was given as a gift to King Edward VII to his mistress, Lillie Langtry. The decor is in keeping with the age and style of the property but I felt that some of the furnishings and the carpets, in particular, could benefit from being changed. I stayed in the Oscar Wilde double room, which has a pleasant outlook over the garden. The bed was comfortable and I had everything I needed for a one night stay but due to the inevitable lack of sound proofing in such an old building, I could hear the TV blaring in the room next to mine and the entirety of my neighbours conversation, which late at night was not welcomed!
