This boutique hotel has very good features even the hotel building is century old. Our room was the corner unit on the top floor which was upgraded with a lot of modern facilities. Without closing the windows, it was quite noisy with trams and birds. Fortunately the temperatures were quite cool for us in May to close the windows. The hotel should consider using foam pillows which are common in North America.

The staff here was very friendly and helpful to answer any questions. Reception was open at all times. The room was very clean with nice furnishings. It wasn’t a big room but we found it adequate. Location was excellent as it was close to a metro station and easy walk to old town. Would recommend.

the staff were great and friendly specially Ana Pereira,gave us a lot of good tips, the location great,good breakfast,the room a little disapointed , because to small a dark, but clean and had a good rest.

The price, breakfast, location and staff were good. I arrived 2 hours early, but I was able to enter my room. On the edge of downtown…everything easily accessible. It was only 17 degrees outside, but it was warm inside. Opening the window wasn’t helpful because of all the trams passing by. There is no airco here.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel when visitng Bern on university business. The location is excellent - just a block or so from the train staton and an easy walk to the old town. The staff here are the best! - very helpful with tips, reservations, they always address you by your name. The rooms are small and a bit spartan but clean and very affordable by Swiss standards. The street can be a bit noisy at times. The breakfast is pretty sparse and my experience of dinner in the restaurant was poor, but there are plenty of other good restaurants in town. If you are looking for an inexpensive hotel with a great location and wonderful staff - I recommend this one.

We had an amazing stay here. The staff were all so friendly, engaging and helpful, it was like being with family. The rooms are great, good value clean modern comfortable. The location is just amazing, just one block walk and you are into the old Bern Altstadt. We had an early train to catch and missed breakfast - the staff made us a breakfast pack each!! Absolutely recommend National Bern Hotel!! Oh btw the restaurant on the ground floor is great. Loved it all! Thank you so much!! Love from Australia 🇦🇺

Loved the character of the building and loved my little balcony, which many rooms have. Staff were oncredibly helpful and friendly, breakfast was great, location outstanding. I will be returning.

Staff does a great job with trying to accommodate the lift/step situation upon arrival, but with a group of 7 and helping my 80 year old mother and other ladies, it was quite the workout upon departure. We were there in October, still a little warm so with windows open, fairly noisy, but wife and I sleep with white noise so not a killer. Will say their breakfast is fantastic. I would stay again despite some of these issues. Have to keep things in perspective, great rate, fairly close to city center without it being too expensive. Thanks.

Exceeded expectations! Ana was such a great host! She was a fabulous ambassador for Switzerland and National Bern! Extremely convenient for train travelers and for walking old Bern! No a/c, but wasn’t an issue in September. Fabulous breakfast too!! Highly recommend!

The weather was very warm over our stay. Although the hotel provided a table fan for our use, we had to have the balcony doors open to sleep. Unfortunately the tram noise from the street was constant and annoying. The bathroom is very small although functional. The two reception staff were very helpful with our enquires.

The hotel is located in a very convenient location, close to everywhere. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. We loved city life, especially my 19 years old daughter, so this hotel is perfect for us. If you are sensitive to street noise, it might not be your best option. The room is very clean and big. My daughter even had a separated bedroom. The breakfast is great, a lot of options. Even we received city guest card for free transportation, we didn’t have chance to use it at all. We were able to walk to anywhere we wanted.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel National for 4 nights in late August. Friendly and professional staff. Very convenient location near train station and easy walk to old town. Excellent breakfast. The reason I give it 4 stars is that there is quite a bit of street noise from the trams. It was warm when we were there and since there is no AC we needed to keep the window open. The trams stop between midnight and 5am so you do get a break at night but I recommend bringing earplugs. Otherwise we were quite happy with the accommodations.

The hotel is nice, clean, functional and centrally located. The check-in service was really good. While the room was small, it was clean, comfortable and functional. The only cons were the room was on the 5th floor and the (old) elevator only goes to the 4th floor-- I did a lot of steps (107 of them each way) during my three night stay. The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. There was a poor selection, crowded and a lot of dirty tables.

The hotel is in front of a tram stop for 4 trains that go all through the city. The new app for all visitors to Bern means that all trams and trains in Bern are free during your stay. SO, this hotel is 5 minutes from the banhoff and 5 minute tram ride from everyplace in old historic Bern. The hotel is old, but the bathrooms are new. It is a simple hotel, no staff after 9 PM, no refrigerators or AC in rooms, but a nice breakfast is included and the staff is warm, friendly and helpful. I stayed for 2 full weeks and loved my stay. If you do get very hot weather and are a light sleeper (not me), be aware that some rooms face the tram stop and they are pretty loud. Didn't bother me. Also, everyone in my group wants to live in Bern now! DO a river float if you visit in summer. trip highlight!
