The Hotel is set in the most lovely valley. It would be a bird watchers dream. There is the most beautiful peacock who lives there. It is next to a stream and surrounded by woodland. The hotel is very clean. The food is lovely. The property is very warm as it was cold when we visited. The only thing we didn’t find pleasurable was the roads to it. We came in from what turned out to be the worse road and used the other road for the rest of the time. It was a one track road and the car was almost touching either side. We did not bother venturing out after dark due to the roads which were more like farm tracks but it would not put us off visiting again 🙂

A beautiful location in the Heddon valley. we had a great 3 night stay. lots of nice walks directly from the hotel. Staff very friendly & helpful. Breakfast good and had very good evening meals. would definitely recommend a stay for anyone who enjoys peace and quiet and great coastal and country walking. we will visit again.

Lovely place
Been here before and love the building and surroundings, Great place to use as a base to explore north Devon , However slightly disappointed with the fact there wasnt a chair in the room nor was there any draws. And it was a shame to listen to staff including upper levels moaning about other members of staff

Wonderful overnight stay
The staff were lovely, the food was delicious, the room was great. The bathroom was clean and functional but dated as was the paintwork in the room but the beds were comfortable and lovely bedding and blankets. We loved every minute of our stay. What a beautiful place!!

Such a wonderful spot and the hotel is from the 1800s and for us men the beer is from local breweries. Staff could not do more, so attentive. If you DINE then you are in for a treat. The view is to die for while you enjoy your meal. Please do go soon to help keep this blast from the past alive. The guests are friendly too! My wife and I had that room on the left with 3 windows. xxx

Such a lovely hidden gem, beautiful valley with lovely walks to coast . Lovely food and breakfast.. road in was narrow and scary but once you’re there its amazing, natural and quiet..

Beautiful Inn
The Inn is in an absolutely beautiful location. It is nearly impossible to find and a 20 minute drive turned into a 2 hour ordeal. When we arrived we were starving and were told no dinner food service on Tuesday evenings. Luckily we stopped at a Co Op and asked directions and picked up some emergency sandwiches. (They are remodeling and it was full of scaffolding but not one working. ) Morning breakfast was delicious. We had a great hiked to Bristol Bay.

We are in the process of being able to offer meals 7 days a week, as we are still short of chefs and front of house staff. The road that was closed by the council should be open soon and we hope you will visit us again.

Pleasant mini-break
Property is in remote location down very narrow road! Ideally situated for walks along coastal path. Unfortunately staffing issues meant meals were only being served one of the two evenings we stayed. The meal we had was very good and nice breakfasts. Property is currently under repair and rooms are a bit dated and compact. Friendly staff and enjoyable stay especially as we got Greta weather for walking coast path.

Thank you for your review. We are trying our hardest to recruit new staff, as is most of the hospitality industry, but due to our remote location, we are struggling. As you mentioned, we are hoping to get rid of the back scaffolding soon. The front scaffolding will have to remain until the front of the hotel has been painted. This was planned for last year but Covid hit! We hope you will return.

Only a couple issues
Overall a good place to stay, very clean, beautiful decor and mostly lovely staff! It's the most perfect location for an off the grid night away! My only negative comments are that the continental breakfast isn't replenished, we were asked what time we wanted to eat as they like to stagger breakfasts so we chose the last time slot, but when we came down we were told to "help ourselves to what is left". I was very disappointed as I'm not a fan of cooked breakfasts, I would've expected the other stuff to have been topped up after the first people had eaten it all! Also my messages sent on hotels.com prior to my visit were all not responded to, and when I called to double check breakfast was included the lady was short and rude with me stating sarcastically that yes it's a bed and breakfast! I think it would've been great to let people know that the balconies weren't in use upon booking too, as I had no idea that that would be the case and no money off is offered for the change of what's described! Apart from those few things everything else was brilliant, but make sure you choose an early slot for breakfast if you want to eat!!

Storm Damage
After the initial shock of seeing all the scaffolding in place, due to storm damage repairs, the stay was very pleasant. Unfortuately some footpaths and local roads are still closed following the storms. Staff, service, and food all very good. Suggest checking directly with the hotel regarding the current situation. .

Hunters Inn is a wonderful place to relax, take walks, or use as a general base. The wooded setting is both picturesque and calming.The food is excellent, though a little salty at times and the menu was fairly limited. The rooms are very good in a pleasant quirky way. But what sums up this place is the fantastic staff. Every member of the team are friendly, helpful, polite and have a "can't do enough for you" attitude. Highly recommended!

Great staff, poor room.
We were disappointed with family room No 9. It obviously had not been renovated to those shown & expected on the website. The bathroom particularly in poor condition. With an old bath & chipped brown panel. Every wall in the room had a crack showing across it. However on telling the accommodation staff, they were helpful & we were offered an immediate discount. We are not overfussy & stayed in dozens of NT holiday let's, but it was not up to the price we initially paid. However the room was no reflection on the staff & service. So this was a shame really. Nice food both nights & breakfasts. Staff very attentive and friendly. NT need to complete the renovation on Hunters to justify the prices they are asking at present.

Was expecting better!
Water in shower was extremely hot, and unable to adjust temperature. When the hot water ran out, there was 20 seconds to wash before it turned cold. Walls had chipped paint going up stairs, floor was buckled in bathroom, front of building was full of weeds, unkempt. I was surprised that nothing had been taken care of during the time it would have been closed.

Thank you for your review. We can only think that a previous guest using the room you stayed in, must have forced the button on the shower, so temperature could not be adjusted. Thank you for drawing our attention to this - the plumber is here as we speak. We will look at the bathroom floor and see what we can do and with regards to chipped paint, we will be carrying on with decorating once the summer is over. The National Trust are now looking after our gardens. A lot of their staff are still on Furlough, but they did tidy the gardens yesterday.

Welcome back to a favourite venue
Having stayed here last year we were concerned how much covid19 had forced a change - the hotel had worked very hard to ensure saftey with major changes to table layout, with tables guaranteed for staying guest, continuous cleaning processes during the day, with excellent service at meal times and of course the wonderful scenery A really tremendous break after such a demanding period of isolation from friends and family Congratulations and thanks to all at Hunters Inn

Nice room, clean and comfortable. Good food and friendly staff. Not sure how I feel about allowing dogs in the dining room. Perhaps a separate area for people who wish to bring dogs with them to the table.

Do your self a favour and book a night.
Great dog friendly place been here before and love to come back. Food excellent. Staff really pleasant. Quaint old English village, not for the unfit. But a great stay for a bit of piece. You feel you get whole village to yourself if a night. Love the sound of the sea at night, so relaxing.

We have been staying at hunters inn for 18 years. It has been decorated and great improvements have been made. I feel there is a risk of losing tbe character of the inn. I’m not keen on seeing old building decorated in a contemporary style and colour, im surprised the national trust has done this. The holiday was lovely, it was cleAn and comfortable.

Needs improvement
Hotel is in a great location, good walks and lovely scenery to enjoy. Room spacious but bed not very comfortable, and pillows musty. Hotel gave impression that it needed a good all over clean, and also some staff indifferent to guests (e.g. hoovering the dining room during breakfast!); other staff very good, focused & helpful. Also too many dogs, which is off putting for some of us...

Fantastic Hotel
We spent 3 nights at the hotel and had a fantastic time. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was big and spacious and the hotel was nicely appointed with a great lounge bar and outdoor seating areas to the front and rear of the hotel. The restaurant menu was really good and we could easily have extended our stay just to try more of the delicious items on the menu.
