Independent in Accra

"My husband uses a manual wheelchair for his mobility. The "accessible" room was not very accessible (narrow doorway into the bathroom, a shower with a curb step and glass door, and the sink was too high and far back into the counter for him to use it.) However, the staff were so accommodating; after showing us about 4 more rooms we found a bathroom that had a lower sink and despite the shower still having a curb step and a glass door, we asked the hotel to remove the glass door, which they happily did for us. We appreciated the excellent customer service through this ordeal (we run into this problem in MANY places and this staff were the most helpful) as well as throughout our stay. The airport shuttle was also convenient. The food at the a la carte restaurant was a bit better than the buffet restaurant, but I think some things even on the a la carte side were from the buffet side. The pool is small, but sufficient; and not very crowded except on the weekend. The A/C was a bit finicky, but it worked overall. And overall it was a fine time with the customer service being one of the best. "

"I had the most wonderful extended stay at The Pelican in Accra and would not hesitate to recommend it. From the moment I landed from a long overseas flight I was warmly greeted assisted by the distinguished airport shuttle chauffeur and had the privilege of being couried to the hotel by airconditioned luxury vehicle. I knew from that moment that I should be prepared for exceptional customer service and amenities. The Pelican reception staff and staff throughout the hotel attended to my every need with a warmth,respect professionalism, efficiency and grace. The room/apt with a spacious private balcony. was beautifully appointed and immaculate in terms of cleanliness, being cleaned daily and as required. The delicous array of meals including traditional Ghanian dishes on offer at the Beak and the outdoor Atrium meant that I didn't wish to venture out, The quality of the food and service was excptional and available 24/7 with room service. I utlised the state of the art (very cool) gym and pool which offered privacy and a serene space. As someone from Australia who has travelled the world and stayed at fabulous hotels I can say that the Pelican was exceptional and met every expectation. It is a hotel that has business clientele and holiday makers which makes for a great ambience. Ensure your rorom suits your needs in terms of the view and noise as Accra is a busy city.
