I stayed with my sister to celebrate her 50th birthday - she had never been to York, so was an excellent base with the added bonus of the spa on site. Our small, but very comfortable room, was situated in the old stables, and while exploring the Hall itself, we were delighted to see photographs of how the transformation from the old to the new had occurred. We were told that some of the rooms were haunted, and a certain chill came over us as we took the tour! The breakfast, included in the price, was delicious; cooked with local produce. During the afternoon of our second day, we booked into the spa. The ladies were friendly, helpful and skillful. The massages certainly relaxed our weary bodies! Although we only stayed one night, we made the most of our time but definitely would have liked to have stayed longer. We will be going back again soon...
Very friendly and helpful staff on the front desk. Although outside the city in a very rural location it was but a short drive into centre and a very short drive to Park and Ride (although this did not operate in the evening while we were there). Would generally prefer to be right in city centre for a city break but were partly in York as spectators of York Marathon so car was essential. Did notice a bus stop right outside the hotel.
Stayed in hotel while visiting with granddaughter in Middlesbrough. Somewhat lengthy drive each day but acceptable. Everything about hotel very nice. Food, cleanliness, front desk staff, especially breakfast service staff. Only issue was hangers in wardrobe (in room 124). Majority of them were bent and would not come off holder. Nearly impossible to hang trousers or shirt on hanger unless you can get it out.
very pleasantly surprised by this holiday inn, previous experience of this chain had not been great, but the harrogate holiday inn was very clean, great staff, good menu and room facilities were excellent.
Hotel is situated about 15 minute walk from city centre. Enjoyed a riverside stroll into the city which was picturesque. Also very close to the Barbican which hadn't realised when booking which was a bonus as we were at a concert there.
Who knew that fall in York would be so popular? The hotel is centrally located and if you know that it is by the museum and tower you will always find a sign post to point the way home! The current manager knows his stuff, he was excellent and his staff was kind, patient and curious. The hotel is more in keeping with a Hilton in the USA.
Nestled under part of the city walls, this hotel offered a warm, friendly welcome and was a perfect location for exploring York at night and day. We had a superior room, which was large enough for two of us for one night. The decor was clean and traditional. The bed was comfortable. The staff and food were great. Would recommend.
