Had problems with a leak in the room, staff responded rapidly and gave us an upgrade to a new room. Reception staff very helpful and efficient. Didn't like queuing for breakfast especially as there were plenty of free tables. Nobody there to greet you on either morning so had to wait for someone to come. Did not seem enough staff to cope with the amount of guests.
My wife & I recently stayed at The Old Swan, just for 1 night for a family wedding. The Hotel dates from the 1700's & is a grand old hotel. It is bigger than I expected & is set in lovely grounds - ideal for wedding photo's.
The staff were friendly, courteous & efficient. Check - in is not normally until 2.00 pm, but we managed to get in earlier, which was good. We had drinks & bar snacks, which were nice, but we didn't have evening meal because we were at the wedding. Our room was large with a big bed and an excellent en-suite, all very clean & tidy with t.v., tea & coffee facilities & a trouser press.
We had full English breakfast the next morning that was excellent.
Agatha Christie was found at this hotel when she went "missing"
Stayed here while we enjoyed a weekend away in Harrogate. Our King Executive room was great value for money for Harrogate hotels, spacious, clean and very comfortable. Tea/coffee in room and a lovely big flat screen TV. Breakfast was excellent and the evening Neal we had was exceptional.
We gad a great weekend here and would definitely return.
It was a little for me when I got in from the train, and made the 10 min walk from the station, but the bar was nice and staff very friendly. The room was very well equipped and dead quiet. Breakfast in the morning included a choice of hot's - the Eggs Benedict was good, but the house coffee was one of the best I've had in a long time.
I travel a moderate amount, but don't usually bother with a review ... I'd would be happy to make this hotel a regular in York... and especially if you like a nice wine or whiskey.
Had a really enjoyable stay at this hotel. Staff really lovely and spa facilities very good although would have liked a gym. Excellent outdoor pool which my husband enjoyed. Only had breakfast in the hotel which was very nice but not decent portions, these could be improved.
Stayed in hotel while visiting with granddaughter in Middlesbrough. Somewhat lengthy drive each day but acceptable. Everything about hotel very nice. Food, cleanliness, front desk staff, especially breakfast service staff. Only issue was hangers in wardrobe (in room 124). Majority of them were bent and would not come off holder. Nearly impossible to hang trousers or shirt on hanger unless you can get it out.
This is a perfect escape, ideally situated and atmospheric - especially the beer garden in the evening with the beautifully lit Minister overlooking you. The Hotel and Staff were excellent and the room was comfortable and spotless. The food is definitely worth trying and you will need the walk around the city walls to walk it off !! We will without question be back and will hopefully be able to stay longer.
