I'm very thankful to front office executive whose name is Green for his invaluable assistance. He speaks good English and helped to arrange my trip to Suzhou and advised me on how to get around Shanghai. His advice helped me to save a lot of money on transportation.

While the furniture and facilities could use some cleaning and tlc the apartments are in a great location to walk right to the subway and be anywhere quick. The building has a handicap accessible ramp and is in a decent neighborhood close to all you need. The cleaning and maintenance staff could use some retraining, but, you get what you pay for, a small finished apartment with all you need to cook and wash your clothes. If you are new to Chinese play with the buttons in the bathroom a bit the heated shower is a true treat.

We stayed here for five nights and enjoyed how centrally located it was. The staff were very helpful and our room was just what we needed. The air conditioning was our favourite part as it was very warm during our stay in Shanghai and we appreciated being able to control the temperature in our room - which wasn't the case in many other hotels!

I usually stayed in a higher price hotel. This one was 3 times less than the other 4 to 5 star hotel i stayed in. It is near line 4, dong'an road station. For 300 Rmb it is just excellent! There are many facilities around like bank, facility store.

The hotel had everything I needed and my room was clean. The furniture was a bit worn and shabby and the hallways could do with updating as the carpet is stained. My main difficulty here was the fact that the staff spoke no english. It made it difficult checking in and when my internet stopped working but overall I would stay there again.
The maids clean the floors of your room everyday and give fresh towels and new soap, toothbrushes etc.
The room could benefit with a wardrobe as I just had to live out of a case with a couple of hangers.

I recently had a 5 night stay at the Donghu Guest house and would highly recommend it! It was super cheap (but not in a nasty way) and the rooms were very clean, well maintained and the air conditioning was very efficient during the summer heat. The hotel is conveniently located right next to Huaihai Road (brilliant for shopping), in between 2 Metro stations which makes getting around really easy. People's Park is only 2 stops away for 3RMB. Donghu Street itself, is packed with lots of little restaurants, bars and massage/beauty parlours and if you venture up to Changle Road you can find lots of cute little shops with a local feel. I really enjoyed my stay (and the area in general) and will definitely stay here again!

Hotel staff have been brilliant, room was great, king size bed, Wifi Internet in room. It's walking location to places is excellent, the Bund 200m away, Grandmothers restaurant close by. Old town is a easy 10 min walk, 10 min walk to East Nanjing metro.
Biggest disappointment was Expedia's map show hotel at west end rather than eastern end of Guangdong rd.

The Xinhui hotel is an excellent Chinese style hotel. By Chinese style, I mean that you should expect as rather firm mattress, which local belief holds to be more healthy, and that the decor may not be what you expect from a more internationally styled hotel. Also, since this is not a high rise in the increasingly vertical megalopolis of Shanghai, do not expect a grand vista from your window.
But, the hotel staff is very friendly, even if your Mandarin is as bad as mine and presumably if you speak none at all. The rooms are completely clean. Everything is above board. And you can't beat the price. Plus it is in a rather interesting artsy area, not far from the excellent Shanghai Metro. It is also about a block's walk from a true local food market where I dare you to find another tourist.
